Chapter 228: Dangerous Battle in the Mining Area
Chapter 228: Dangerous Battle in the Mining Area
Inside the mine, the light was dim, and the air was filled with the smell of damp earth and a faint scent of rust. Cheng Yuwei held her breath, leaning against the cold wall of the mine tunnel, her ear pressed close to the wall, listening carefully to the sounds outside.
The enemy's footsteps approached from afar, accompanied by shrill whistles and faint whispers. "They're searching in a scattered manner," Cheng Yuwei thought to herself. This was good news for the squad, as it meant the enemy wouldn't bring in their entire force all at once.
"Zhang Qiang, Li Chao." Cheng Yuwei lowered her voice and beckoned the two to come closer. "We have to use the mine tunnel to separate them one by one. We can't let them merge into one team."
"Sister-in-law, do you have any specific plans?" Zhang Qiang's eyes showed a hint of worry, but his tone was firm.
Cheng Yuwei nodded: "The terrain in the mining area is complex. We can set up some obstacles to guide them into a blind spot, and then ambush them in the dark. The key is to be quick and not waste time."
Set a trap
Cheng Yuwei, Zhang Qiang and Li Chao acted quickly, picking up the discarded wooden boards and rails scattered in the mine tunnel, blocking several main passages, leaving only a few confusing trails leading to the depths of the mine.
"Sister-in-law, how long can we hold them off like this?" Li Chao asked while fiddling with the rails.
"It won't hold them back for long, but it's enough to disperse them," Cheng Yuwei explained. "By the time they discover these obstacles, we'll have already moved to another position."
After the arrangement was completed, the three men quickly evacuated to a deeper mine and chose a narrow but clear-sighted area as an ambush point.
Soon, the enemy's footsteps echoed in the mine tunnel, chaotic and disorderly.
"Hey, it seems like there's a blockage ahead!" A hoarse voice sounded, followed by the shaking of a flashlight beam.
"Go around the other side!" another voice responded.
Hearing the enemy begin to disperse, Cheng Yuwei quietly raised her pistol, her eyes locked on an approaching figure. When the person was more than ten steps away, she decisively pulled the trigger. The dull sound of the gunshot echoed in the mine tunnel, and the person fell to the ground.
"There's an ambush!" another enemy shouted, and immediately squatted down alertly to seek cover.
"Retreat!" Cheng Yuwei gave a decisive and low order, and the three of them quickly left from another fork in the road, leaving behind the empty mine tunnel and the enemy's helpless screams.
Scream
The mine tunnel was filled with the smell of gunpowder, and the enemy's footsteps came from all directions, but they were getting farther and farther away. Cheng Yuwei knew that this was exactly the situation she wanted.
"Sister-in-law, how are we going to attack this time?" Zhang Qiang asked, panting.
"Use sound to lure them in," Cheng Yuwei whispered. "We'll bring grenades and make noises in different locations, making them think we're outnumbered. Then we'll concentrate our firepower to lure them into the trap."
"Good idea!" Li Chao's eyes lit up and he immediately took out several grenades from his backpack and prepared for action.
Cheng Yuwei quickly planned the route, and several people detonated grenades in different locations in the mine tunnel, causing continuous explosions that made the entire mine buzz.
The enemy fell for the trick and shouted as they gathered in the direction of the explosion. But when they rushed there, there was only thick smoke and collapsed rubble, no target in sight.
"Chase them! Don't let them run away!" The enemy commander roared orders, but he didn't realize that his men were being led deeper and deeper.
Jedi strikes back
Cheng Yuwei and her team hid behind abandoned equipment at the end of the mine, quietly waiting for the enemy to approach. Her eyes were as sharp as a falcon's, and the muzzle of the gun in her hand trembled slightly, but she was as steady as a rock.
"Wait until they get closer before taking action." Cheng Yuwei reminded the team members in a low voice with a calm tone.
Soon after, the enemy's flashlights gradually appeared at the entrance of the mine, and the beams swept back and forth, obviously they had not yet discovered their hiding place.
"Ready!" Cheng Yuwei whispered an order, her finger lightly on the trigger.
"Bang!" A gunshot rang out, and the bullet with a cold glow accurately hit the leading enemy. The flashlight in his hand fell to the ground, and the light beam instantly became chaotic.
"Ambush! Cover!" The enemy dodged in panic and began to shoot blindly in their direction.
Cheng Yuwei and her team used the terrain to maneuver flexibly, constantly adjusting their positions in the darkness and defeating the enemies one by one. Although the enemy had the advantage in numbers, they gradually fell into a passive position due to the complex terrain of the mining area and the opponent's precise ambushes.
"Sister-in-law, there are three more!" Zhang Qiang reminded loudly.
Cheng Yuwei aimed at the positions of the last few enemies and fired back quickly while moving. The gunshots echoed in the mine tunnel, and bullets sparked on the walls and rails.
Soon after, the enemy completely lost its ability to resist and the mine returned to a brief period of peace.
A glimmer of life
"Take inventory of the enemy's equipment." Cheng Yuwei commanded, while carefully observing the surroundings to ensure that no threats were missed.
Zhang Qiang and Li Chao quickly collected weapons and supplies left by the enemy and found some much-needed ammunition and several bottles of clean water.
"Sister-in-law, what should we do? We won't be here long." Li Chao asked while checking his weapons.
Cheng Yuwei nodded: "The enemy's main force may have received the signal. We must leave the mining area before dawn and continue south."
"But we are outnumbered, and the enemy may have set up an encirclement outside." Zhang Qiang frowned and said.
"Don't worry, they're already in disarray and won't act so quickly." Cheng Yuwei's eyes were firm. "As long as we evacuate through the secret passage at the mine exit, we can avoid their blockade."
The night wind was still biting. Cheng Yuwei led the team members to organize their equipment and silently moved towards the exit deep in the mine.
In the darkness, a ray of light faintly emerged, seeming to herald the coming of new hope...
