Chapter 1897 Japanese troops in Jiangshan County, Zhejiang Province, were blocked at Huangmaoling.

Chapter 1897 Japanese troops in Jiangshan County, Zhejiang Province, were blocked at Huangmaoling.

When Yushan County was recovered, the 1st and 2nd Battalions of the 3rd Regiment and the 1st and 2nd Battalions of the 4th Regiment had already recovered Guangfeng County, another county adjacent to Zhejiang.

Soldiers from the Third and Fourth Regiments set up defensive fortifications along Huangmaoling in Ershibadu, which borders Guangfeng County and Jiangshan County in Zhejiang Province, to block the Japanese troops from Jiangshan County, Zhejiang Province, from entering Guangfeng County, Jiangxi Province.

Ershibadu is located at the junction of Zhejiang, Fujian and Jiangxi provinces, in the Xianxialing Mountains, with complex terrain.

Huangmaoling is located at the foot of Xingdun Village in Ershibadu, at an altitude of about 700 meters. The top of the ridge is covered with thatch grass, which makes it easy to hide.

Its geographical location is important, controlling the vital transportation route from Jiangxi to Jiangshan, Zhejiang.

The Japanese army had built bunkers on the mountainside. During the hasty retreat of the Japanese troops in Guangfeng County, all the bunkers and fortifications were occupied by soldiers of the 3rd and 4th Regiments, and used as strongholds to block the Japanese advance.

Soldiers from the Fourth Regiment also constructed artillery positions and lookout posts on Wuyinrun Mountain, located behind Huangmaoling.

Wuyinrun Mountain is about 1000 meters above sea level. At the top of the mountain are the ruins of a circular bunker left by the Japanese army, which is an excellent spot for observation and sentry duty.

It forms an ambush position with Huangmaoling, with its elevation and elevation complementing each other.

Once the Huangmaoling position is attacked by the Japanese army, they can call for air support.

Sure enough, the afternoon after the Third and Fourth Regiments occupied Guangfeng County, the Japanese army from Jiangshan County, Zhejiang Province, gathered troops and attempted to retake Guangfeng County, another important county town in Zhejiang Province.

Before the Japanese troops in Jiangshan County could even attack Huangmaoling, they were spotted by the observation post at Wuyinrunshan, and they immediately called for air support.

When the Japanese army arrived near Huangmaoling, they built artillery positions in a concealed location near the mountain, attempting to launch a strong attack on Huangmaoling.

To the Japanese army's dismay, their artillery positions had just been set up and they had barely begun shelling the Huangmaoling Devil Force's positions when the Devil Force's air force arrived.

To prevent their artillery positions from being bombed by the devilish air force, they had to stop firing.

Without artillery cover, Japanese infantrymen stealthily approached Huangmaoling via the grassy thickets on both sides of the path at the foot of the mountain, launching a surprise attack on the First Army's Huangmaoling position.

The Huangmaoling Third and Fourth Regiments, which were well-prepared, immediately launched a counterattack.

The intense gunfire and explosions attracted the attention of the pilots who had already taken off, and they immediately dropped bombs and strafed the bushes.

The Japanese troops, who had been hiding near Huangmaoling, were attacked by the First Army Air Force, suffering heavy casualties and having to retreat.

While the Japanese army in Jiangshan County launched a sustained attack on the 3rd and 4th Regiments, 1st and 2nd Battalions of Huangmaoling, the 3rd and 4th Regiments, 3rd and 4th Battalions also recovered Yushan County and advanced on Jiangshan County, Changshan County and Kaihua County in Zhejiang Province.

The Japanese army in Zhejiang had to transfer a large number of troops from Changshan County and Kaihua County to attack in an attempt to recapture Yushan County.

In order to consolidate the border between Jiangxi and Zhejiang, Commander Zhang dispatched a large number of airmen to patrol and conduct reconnaissance along the Jiangxi border.

Any unusual activity by the Japanese troops in Changshan County and Kaihua County was immediately captured by the First Army Air Force.

Soon, a combined squadron of fighters and bombers from the First Army flew toward Yushan County and launched a fierce bombing and strafing attack on the Japanese troops who were gathering and waiting for orders.

The Japanese troops in Kaihua County and Changshan County were devastated by the bombing of the First Army's air force and were temporarily unable to attack Yushan County.

The Third Regiment Commander knew that the Japanese army was determined to destroy China, and that since his offensive plans had been disrupted by the air force, they would definitely come back again. So he immediately ordered his troops to deploy along the Xianxia Ridge.
