A Fantasy Love Story Across the Warring States Period

Chapter 7 Difficult Choices and Unexpected Help

Chapter 7 Difficult Choices and Unexpected Help

Wanru paced back and forth in the room, her mind a jumble of thoughts. On one hand, she knew that if Xueying's scheme succeeded, she would be driven out of the manor and left with no relatives or friends in this unfamiliar Warring States period; on the other hand, she really didn't want to bother Huanmo with her troubles, after all, he had already worried a lot about her.

"Young Master Huanmo did say he would protect me, but if I keep asking him to help me resolve the conflict between Xueying and me, won't he think I'm a nuisance?" Wanru thought to herself, her steps becoming increasingly flustered.

Xiaozhu watched Wanru's anxious expression and felt very worried, but she really couldn't think of any good solutions, so she could only stay by Wanru's side in silence.

After a long while, Wanru finally stopped pacing. She gritted her teeth, as if she had made up her mind, and said to Xiaozhu, "Xiaozhu, I've decided to try going to see Young Master Huanmo. No matter what the outcome, it's better than waiting to die."

Xiao Zhu nodded and said, "Miss, this is the only way. I hope Young Master Huanmo can help you resolve this crisis."

Wanru took a deep breath, straightened her clothes, and headed towards Huanmo's residence. Along the way, she was extremely nervous, her mind racing with various possible scenarios.

When she arrived at the door of Huanmo's residence, she hesitated. She stood outside the door, raising her hand several times as if to knock, but then withdrew it.

"Is Young Master Huanmo already resting? Is it too abrupt of me to come here so abruptly? What if he finds me annoying and doesn't want to deal with me anymore?" Wanru thought anxiously, her inner struggle making her hesitate at the door.

Just as Wanru was hesitating, the door suddenly opened from the inside, and Huanmo appeared in the doorway, looking at Wanru with a surprised expression.

"Wanru? What brings you here? It's so late, is something the matter?" Huanmo asked with concern.

Wanru was startled by the sudden scene, then came to her senses and said with a flushed face, "Young master, I... I have something I want to tell you. I'm so sorry to disturb your rest."

Huanmo smiled slightly and said, "It's alright, come in first, and we can talk about it slowly."

Wanru followed Huanmo into the room. The room was simply yet elegantly furnished, with flickering candlelight that made Huanmo's face appear even more gentle. Wanru looked at Huanmo before her, but her nervousness remained undiminished.

“Young Master, it’s like this…” Wanru mustered her courage and told Huanmo everything Xiaozhu had overheard about Xueying’s plan. After she finished speaking, she looked at Huanmo nervously, waiting for his reaction.

Huanmo's face gradually darkened upon hearing Wanru's words. He hadn't expected Xueying to be so stubborn, even thinking of driving Wanru out of the manor.

"That Xueying is really too much!" Huanmo couldn't help but mutter angrily.

Seeing this, Wanru felt a little scared. She thought Huanmo was angry with her, so she quickly said, "Young master, I'm sorry. It's all my fault for causing you so much trouble. If you feel uncomfortable, I... I can leave."

Upon hearing this, Huanmo quickly went to Wanru's side, gently grasped her shoulder, and said, "Wanru, what are you saying? How could I let you leave? I will handle this matter, you don't need to worry."

Looking into Huanmo's determined eyes, Wanru felt a surge of warmth in her heart, and her eyes welled up with tears. She said gratefully, "Young Master, thank you. I knew you would help me."

Huanmo gently patted Wanru's shoulder and said, "Go back and rest first. I have my own arrangements for this matter."

Wanru nodded and turned to leave Huanmo's residence. Back in her own courtyard, although she was still a little worried, Huanmo's promise put her at ease.

The next morning, Wanru woke up very early. She sat on the edge of the bed, feeling anxious and unsure how Huanmo would handle the situation.

Meanwhile, Huanmo was indeed preparing for this. He knew Xueying's personality well; if he went directly to argue with her, it would probably only make her more rebellious. So he decided to start with Xueying's parents and have them persuade Xueying.

Huanmo went to Xueying's parents' residence and told them about Xueying's recent actions and her plan to drive Wanru away. Xueying's parents were very surprised to hear this; they never expected their daughter to do such a thing.

“Huanmo, we have indeed spoiled this child. Don’t worry, we will persuade her properly and will not let her do such a wrong thing again,” Xueying’s father said.

Huanmo nodded and said, "Then I'll have to trouble you, Uncle. I hope Xueying will understand things soon and stop making things difficult for Wanru."

At first, Xueying was reluctant after being persuaded by her parents, but under their stern reprimands, she finally reluctantly agreed to stop bothering Wanru.

When Huanmo heard the news, he breathed a sigh of relief. He thought Wanru would be very happy to hear it, so he decided to tell her.

However, on Huanmo's way to Wanru's courtyard, something unexpected happened.

As he passed a garden, he heard a quarrel coming from inside. Curious, Huanmo went over to investigate.

Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be a maid and a servant arguing. The maid's face was flushed, and she seemed very angry, while the servant looked helpless.

"What are you arguing about?" Huanmo asked, frowning.

When the maid saw Huanmo, it was as if she had seen a savior. She quickly said, "Young master, you've come at the right time! This servant bullied me. He said I was lazy, but I clearly didn't!"

Upon hearing this, the servant hurriedly defended himself, saying, "Young master, I didn't bully her. It's just that she didn't do her job properly and is blaming me."

Huanmo felt somewhat helpless watching the two arguing incessantly. Just as he was about to intervene, a dark figure suddenly darted out from a corner of the garden and pounced on Huanmo.

Huanmo was startled and instinctively took a step back, trying to dodge. But the dark figure was extremely fast, and in an instant it was in front of him.
