Chapter 25 The Land of Mist and a New Crisis

Chapter 25 The Land of Mist and a New Crisis

A thick, gray fog, like a dense waft of cotton, enveloped everything, making one feel as if they were in a primordial, undeveloped world. The fog was damp and carried a chill, gently brushing against everyone's cheeks, yet feeling as sharp as ice blades. Strange sounds rose and fell within the fog, sometimes like sharp whistles piercing the silence, sometimes like low murmurs, whispers from the underworld, sending chills down one's spine.

Huanmo gripped Wanru's hand tightly, shielding her behind him. His wary gaze swept back and forth through the mist, trying to pierce the thick fog and see his surroundings. His heart pounded like a taut bowstring, each beat filled with apprehension about the unknown. They had just escaped death from the barrier at the end of the passage, thinking they were temporarily out of trouble, but unexpectedly, they were now trapped in this eerie and unpredictable place. He silently vowed to protect Wanru at all costs, but the pervasive mist and the eerie sounds made him feel as if countless eyes were watching from the shadows, ready to pounce and attack at any moment.

Wanru clung tightly to Huanmo's back, her body trembling slightly, her eyes filled with terror. Danger seemed to have been constant throughout their journey, and now, in this misty land, she felt as if she were lost in an endless nightmare. How she longed for a ray of light to illuminate the darkness, to lead them away from this horrible place, back to a world where she might find peace, even if only for a moment.

The man in white held a jade flute, his brow furrowed, his expression grave. He knew all too well that this underground palace and its surroundings were shrouded in mystery, every new environment potentially concealing deadly dangers. This misty land, seemingly peaceful, was permeated with an unsettling aura. He kept a close watch on his surroundings, pondering a course of action, his grip on the jade flute unconsciously tightening, as if it were the only strength he could rely on at this moment.

Qingwan clutched the spirit pearl tightly; its soft light could only illuminate a small area in the mist. Her face was slightly pale, and her eyes held a trace of worry. She had lived near this underground palace for a long time, yet she had never seen such a strange place. She knew that beneath this mist lay untold secrets and dangers, and now they were trapped within it; she had no idea whether they could escape unscathed.

The white tiger paced back and forth, its blue eyes gleaming warily in the mist, occasionally letting out a low growl, seemingly demonstrating against the unknown presence in the fog.

As everyone cautiously groped their way forward through the mist, a faint singing voice suddenly drifted from ahead. The voice was ethereal and melodious, as if it came from the distant sky, or as if it rose slowly from the depths of the heart, carrying an indescribable charm.

Huanmo suddenly stopped and gestured for everyone to be quiet. He lowered his voice and said, "Everyone be careful. This singing is suspicious. There might be a trap."

Wanru covered her ears, trying to block out the singing. Her heart suddenly raced, and a nameless fear welled up inside her. She felt as if the singing was pulling at her soul, trying to drag her into an unknown abyss.

The man in white also stopped playing. He frowned, listening intently to the source of the song. He knew that in this mysterious place, any unusual sound could be a sign of danger.

Qingwan's eyes widened. She seemed to have discerned something in the song, and a look of horror appeared on her face. She said, "This...this song sounds like the song of the Mist Fairy. Legend has it that she can bewitch people with her singing, plunging them into endless illusions, and ultimately making them her meal."

Upon hearing this, Huanmo felt a pang of anxiety. He gripped Wanru's hand even tighter and said, "Don't be afraid, I'm here. I won't let you get hurt."

However, despite everyone's best efforts to resist the influence of the song, it gradually entangled their hearts like fine threads of a net, causing their thoughts to become blurred.

Wanru felt as if the mist before her eyes was transforming into various strange scenes. One moment it was the modern world she longed for, with its towering skyscrapers and bustling traffic; the next it became a heartwarming scene of her and Huanmo in the Warring States period, the two of them nestled together, enjoying the beauty of the world. She knew these were all illusions, but she couldn't pull herself away. Her eyes gradually became hazy, and her feet involuntarily moved towards the direction of the song.

Huanmo noticed Wanru's unusual behavior and became extremely anxious. He shook Wanru's body vigorously and shouted, "Wanru, wake up! It's all an illusion! Don't be fooled!"

Seeing this, the man in white hurriedly raised his jade flute and played a stirring melody, trying to break the enchantment of the song with the sound of the jade flute.

Qingwan held the Spirit Pearl high, chanting incantations as if casting some kind of spell. The Spirit Pearl's light grew stronger, attempting to dispel the pervasive mist and the enchanting song.

With everyone's help, Wanru finally came to her senses. A trace of fear still lingered in her eyes. She gasped for breath and said, "I...I think I almost got caught in it just now. It was terrifying."

Huanmo hugged Wanru tightly, saying, "It's alright, it's alright, you're safe now."

Just when everyone thought they had temporarily escaped the torment of the singing, a graceful figure suddenly appeared from the mist. The figure wore a light veil, appearing and disappearing like an elf born from the mist. Her face was exquisitely beautiful, yet she possessed an eerie, otherworldly aura—it was none other than the Mist Fairy.

The Mist Fairy floated in slowly, holding an exquisite fan in her hand, which she gently fanned, and her ethereal and melodious singing voice came from her mouth.

"You intruders, how dare you ruin my plans! Hmph, none of you will leave here alive today." The Mist Fairy's voice, like her singing, was ethereal yet filled with intense killing intent.

Huanmo pushed Wanru away, gripped his sword tightly again, and said, "Trying to hurt us won't be that easy!"

The man in white also brought the jade flute to his lips, preparing to play it again and deliver a crushing blow to the enemy.

Qingwan held the Spirit Pearl in front of her, her eyes fixed warily on the Mist Demoness, ready to deal with any possible attack from her.

The white tiger also arched its body, letting out a low roar, ready to pounce.

Seeing this, the Mist Fairy smiled lightly, but her smile was full of contempt. She fanned herself faster, and her singing suddenly became more rousing, her alluring power increasing once again.

Everyone felt an immense mental pressure bearing down on them, as if it were about to completely crush their minds.

Just as everyone was struggling to hold on, the golden box emitted another dazzling light. This light merged with the light of the spirit pearl, forming a solid mental barrier that blocked out the alluring song and mental pressure.

Upon seeing this, the Mist Fairy exclaimed in surprise, "How is this possible?"

Taking advantage of the moment, everyone regained their composure and prepared to launch a counterattack.

However, at that moment, the Mist Fairy suddenly flashed and disappeared into the mist, leaving only a harsh word echoing in the air: "You wait, I will be back!"

Huanmo breathed a sigh of relief, but he knew the danger wasn't truly over; the Mist Fairy could reappear at any moment. He looked around and noticed the fog seemed to have thickened, making the surrounding environment even more indistinct.

“We need to get out of here quickly and find a safer place,” Huanmo said.

Everyone nodded in agreement, and led by the white tiger, they continued their arduous journey through the fog.

But they hadn't gone far when a huge vortex suddenly appeared ahead. The vortex spun slowly in the mist, emitting a powerful suction force that seemed to pull everything around it into it.
