Chapter 29 Light and Shadow Teleportation and First Encounter in the Desert

When everyone regained consciousness, they felt a wave of intense heat wash over them, the air was thick with the smell of dry sand, and the wind howled in their ears as if countless grains of sand were dancing wildly.

Huanmo opened her eyes first, and what came into view was a vast, boundless desert, exactly like the scene depicted in the painting of light and shadow. The golden sand shimmered blindingly under the scorching sun, and the undulating dunes stretched like ocean waves to the horizon, seemingly without end. A fierce wind raged, whipping up clouds of dust that blotted out the sun, darkening the sky.

He was startled; he hadn't expected the scroll of light and shadow to actually transport them here. Turning to look at Wanru, the man in white, and Qingwan, who were gradually waking up, as well as the white tiger lying beside them, he felt both worried and helpless. Danger had always been their constant companion on this journey, and now, stranded in this vast desert, they didn't know what kind of predicament they would face. He secretly vowed to protect Wanru no matter what and get her safely out of this horrible place.

Wanru slowly woke up, and the moment she opened her eyes, she was shocked by the desert scene before her. She instinctively covered her mouth and nose, trying to block the choking sand, but the sand still managed to seep into her nasal cavity and mouth, making her cough uncontrollably. "Where...where am I? How did I end up in the desert?" Her voice was filled with obvious fear and confusion, her heart brimming with dread of the unknown.

Huanmo quickly supported her, gently patting her back and comforting her, "Don't be afraid, Wanru. We were transported here by that scroll of light and shadow, so there must be some deeper meaning. As long as we're together, we'll definitely find a way to leave."

The man in white also regained consciousness. Holding the jade flute, he stood up and warily surveyed his surroundings. The desert environment was extremely harsh, and he knew he had to remain vigilant at all times to deal with any potential dangers. Looking at the swirling sand, he pondered to himself: This place may seem desolate, but it might hold some secret; perhaps the mysterious pyramid is the key.

Qingwan clutched the spirit pearl tightly, stood up, her face slightly pale, and a hint of worry in her eyes. The desert atmosphere made her uneasy; she had never been to such a dry and hot place before, and she wondered what kind of mysterious power awaited them here. "Everyone, be careful. The dangers in this desert are no less than what we've encountered before," she whispered to the others.

The white tiger shook its body, removing the sand and dust. Its blue eyes still gleamed warily through the sand and dust, and it let out a low roar, seemingly demonstrating against the harsh environment of the desert.

Just as everyone was preparing to discuss their next move, a commotion suddenly came from behind the sand dunes in the distance, as if something was moving rapidly.

Huanmo immediately clenched his fists, looked warily in the direction of the sound, and whispered, "Everyone be careful, there's movement!"

Everyone tensed up and prepared their own responses.

As the sound grew closer, a massive figure slowly emerged from behind the sand dunes. It was a colossal sand beast, as large as a small mountain, its body covered in hard sand armor that shimmered with a metallic sheen. Its eyes, like two enormous red lanterns, gleamed fiercely, and its mouth was filled with sharp fangs as it roared at the group.

Wanru hid behind Huanmo in terror, her body trembling uncontrollably, her heart filled with despair. What were they to do, encountering such a ferocious monster in this vast desert?

Huanmo shielded Wanru behind him, his eyes fixed on the sand beast. Although he was a little nervous, he knew he couldn't back down now. He turned to the man in white and Qingwan and said, "Let's attack together, try to avoid its attacks, and find its weakness!"

The man in white nodded, put the jade flute to his lips, and began to play a stirring melody. The melody transformed into invisible forces that flew towards the sand beast, attempting to disrupt its movements.

Qingwan then raised the spirit pearl, chanting incantations. The light emanating from the spirit pearl instantly intensified, forming a protective barrier that temporarily shielded everyone.

Huanmo seized the opportunity, let out a loud shout, and charged towards the sand beast. Although he was no longer carrying his sword, he couldn't care less at this moment; he only wanted to use his strength to buy Wanru a chance for safety.

Seeing Huanmo charging towards it, the sand beast roared angrily, raised its front hooves, and stomped down hard on Huanmo. Huanmo nimbly dodged the attack, then followed up with a punch to the sand beast's leg. However, the sand beast's sand armor was incredibly hard, and Huanmo's punch felt like hitting steel; his hand was instead jolted and stung.

Just as Huanmo was about to launch another attack, the sand beast suddenly turned around, its tail sweeping towards Huanmo like a giant whip. Huanmo couldn't dodge in time and was struck in the waist, thrown violently to the ground and crashing onto the sand.

"Huanmo!" Upon seeing this, Wanru was extremely anxious and ran towards Huanmo regardless of the danger.

The man in white and Qingwan rushed over to help. The man in white quickened his playing, making the melody more urgent, trying to attract the sand beast's attention. Qingwan, on the other hand, focused on maintaining the protective barrier of the spirit orb to prevent the sand beast from taking the opportunity to attack the others.

Huanmo struggled to his feet from the sand, wiping the blood from his mouth, his eyes filled with determination. "I'm fine, everyone, don't worry, let's keep fighting it!"

Just as everyone was preparing to attack the sand beast again, a strange band of light suddenly appeared in the desert sky. The band of light shimmered with colorful light, like a bridge leading to the heavens. The moment the band of light appeared, the sand beast seemed to be greatly frightened. It stopped attacking, raised its head and looked at the band of light in the sky in terror, letting out low growls.
