Chapter 34 Puppet Siege and Survival in Desperate Circumstances
Chapter 34 Puppet Siege and Survival in Desperate Circumstances
The newly emerged metal golems lined up in a row, their cold, metallic bodies radiating a chilling aura under the golden light of the ruins. Their blades were raised high, their gleam seemingly piercing the dusty, tense air, aiming straight for the hearts of everyone present.
Huanmo struggled to his feet, his wounds throbbing with excruciating pain; every movement felt like being burned alive. But he couldn't care less. His gaze was fixed on the menacing metal puppets before him, his heart filled with a mixture of helplessness and resolve. Helpless because he had just dealt with one puppet, only to be met with more enemies; this series of crises seemed endless. Resolute because he was determined to protect Wanru no matter what, even if he was already wounded and battered, he would not back down an inch. He clenched his fists, silently encouraging himself: "I must hold on. I can't let Wanru be in danger."
Wanru ran to Baihu's side and, seeing its injuries, her eyes filled with tears. She gently stroked Baihu's fur, her heart aching. At that moment, she was worried about Baihu's injuries and also afraid of the attacks from the metal puppets. She looked up in Huanmo's direction and saw Huanmo, covered in wounds, yet still resolutely facing the enemy. Her heart clenched painfully. She knew that in this desperate situation, everyone was fighting for survival, and she couldn't just hide in the back; she had to find a way to help everyone.
The man in white held a jade flute, his forehead covered in fine beads of sweat. His hand trembled slightly as he played the flute, not out of fear, but because maintaining the high-intensity melody for so long had pushed his strength to the limit. He looked at the metal puppets, silently pondering a solution. In the past, the jade flute had been somewhat effective, but against this group of puppets, he knew his own strength was far from enough. He turned to Qingwan, his eyes questioning, hoping to gain some insight from her and find a way to overcome this predicament together.
Qingwan clutched the Spirit Pearl tightly, its light dimmed from the continuous use of protective spells. Her face was ashen, her lips bloodless. Her gaze swept back and forth between the metal puppet and the others, her heart filled with anxiety. She knew they were in grave danger, every decision a matter of life and death. She gritted her teeth, nodded slightly to the man in white, signaling him to continue using the jade flute to distract the puppet, while she prepared to try using the Spirit Pearl to unleash an even stronger protective spell, buying everyone some breathing room.
Under Wanru's soothing words, the white tiger slowly stood up. A stubborn glint remained in its blue eyes. Though its wounds hadn't healed, it still let out a low roar, preparing to rejoin the battle. It understood that only by working together with everyone could it have a chance to defeat these terrifying enemies and protect them all.
Just as everyone was preparing to react, the metal golems seemed to receive a unified command, letting out a mechanical roar and then lunging at them.
Seeing this, Huanmo roared and charged towards the puppets. Using the remaining power from the mysterious bead in his hand, he swung his fist again and smashed it hard at the puppet in front. This time, with his experience from dealing with single puppets, his attacks were more precise, targeting the gaps in the puppets' movements.
The man in white also exerted all his strength, bringing the jade flute to his lips and playing an even more stirring and faster-paced melody. The melody transformed into invisible forces, sweeping towards the puppets like a whirlwind, attempting to disrupt their movements and throw off their attack rhythm.
Qingwan closed her eyes, concentrated all her energy, and chanted incantations as she raised the spirit pearl high. The spirit pearl instantly shone brighter than ever before, and a massive protective barrier rapidly formed in front of everyone, enveloping them. This barrier not only withstood the puppets' bladed attacks but also weakened their impact to some extent.
Seizing its opportunity, the white tiger pounced on one of the puppets again. Using its speed and agility, it leaped and darted between the puppets, tearing at their joints with its sharp claws and teeth, trying to incapacitate them.
In an instant, dust filled the ruins, and the sounds of battle shouts, mechanical roars, the melody of jade flutes, and the buzzing of spirit pearls mingled together in a chaotic mess.
Huanmo sustained several new wounds in his fight with the puppets, but he successfully slowed down one of them. Just as he was about to attack the other puppets, they seemed to sense his threat and suddenly changed tactics. Two of them turned and surrounded Huanmo, while the others continued their charge toward the protective barrier where Qingwan, the man in white, and Wanru were located.
"Huanmo, be careful!" Wanru shouted anxiously from inside the barrier, her voice trembling with tears. She watched helplessly as Huanmo was surrounded and attacked.
Huanmo's heart tightened; he knew his situation was extremely dangerous. But he showed no sign of backing down, instead becoming even more courageous. He skillfully dodged the attacks from the two puppets while searching for an opportunity to counterattack.
Just then, the man in white noticed the puppets' tactical change. Knowing that Huanmo alone could not withstand the attack of two puppets, he made a decisive move, changing the tune of the jade flute and concentrating some of his power to shoot at the two puppets attacking Huanmo.
The invisible force struck one of the puppets, causing it to momentarily freeze in motion. Huanmo seized the opportunity and delivered a powerful punch to the head of the other puppet, sending it staggering back several steps.
However, just as Huanmo caught his breath, the puppets that had rushed towards the protective barrier were already upon him. They raised their sharp blades and slashed fiercely at the barrier, which immediately flashed with intense light, as if it were under immense pressure.
Qingwan's expression changed; she could feel the protective barrier teetering on the brink of collapse under the puppet's attacks. She gritted her teeth and continued casting spells, trying to stabilize the barrier, but her strength was almost exhausted, and beads of sweat dripped down her forehead like rain.
Wanru looked around inside the barrier, hoping to find something that could help everyone. Suddenly, she noticed an ancient stone platform in a corner of the ruins, on which sat a crystal ball emitting a faint blue light. The crystal ball looked very mysterious, as if it concealed some kind of power.
