Chapter 60 The Difficulty of Breaking the Curse and the Search for the Truth
Chapter 60 The Difficulty of Breaking the Curse and the Search for the Truth
Standing before the indestructible, invisible barrier, the group gazed at the ancient artifact emanating a strange light on the stone platform, their hearts filled with helplessness and anxiety.
The atmosphere inside the cave was oppressive, almost suffocating. The damp, musty smell seemed even stronger, as if mocking their predicament. On the surrounding walls, the moss appeared even more sinister under the dim light of the luminous pearls, and water droplets continued to seep from the cracks, the dripping sound particularly jarring in the silence, like the tolling of a countdown clock, urging them to find a way out as quickly as possible.
Trapped within the jade box's light, Huanmo stared intently at the divine artifact behind the barrier, his heart filled with mixed emotions. He yearned for the artifact to lift his predicament, allowing him to move freely again and fight alongside his companions, yet he was also deeply worried about the challenge of breaking the curse. "How can this curse be broken? Are all our efforts destined to fail?" he sighed inwardly, blaming himself for picking up the jade box in the first place, leading everyone into this difficult situation.
Wanru clung tightly to Huanmo, her small hands unconsciously gripping the hem of his clothes. She stared at the barrier, her eyes filled with confusion and worry. "Why is it always so difficult? The divine artifact is right in front of us, yet we can't get it," she murmured to herself, fearing that this time they truly wouldn't find a way out and everyone would be trapped here to die.
The woman in black robes wore a solemn expression. She slowly paced around the barrier, carefully observing her surroundings, trying to find clues to break the curse from the cave's environment, the arrangement of the stone platform, and even the strange light. "This curse is closely related to the truth we seek, but what exactly is this truth? All along the way, we seem to have been chasing a secret, yet we have never grasped the whole picture," she pondered, her brow furrowed.
The man in white held a jade flute and gently tapped the ground, seemingly seeking inspiration from the sound. He knew the key to breaking the curse might lie hidden in their past experiences, but those experiences were complex and multifaceted, making it incredibly difficult to sift through them for useful clues. "Could it be related to the map we initially obtained? Or perhaps it's connected to those mysterious figures and strange events we encountered before?" he murmured, a hint of weariness and confusion in his eyes.
The man in the green robe and Qingwan leaned against each other, their spiritual energy nearly depleted and their bodies exhausted, but their eyes remained resolute, unwilling to give up this last hope. "No matter what, we have to try. We can't just give up like this," the man in the green robe softly encouraged Qingwan, while also rallying himself.
The white tiger lay to one side, a hint of helplessness in its blue eyes. It seemed to sense its master Huanmo's anxiety, occasionally letting out a low growl, as if cheering everyone on.
Just as everyone was racking their brains, Wanru suddenly remembered something. She took out a tattered scroll from her bosom. She had obtained this scroll by chance in a small town she had passed through earlier. It contained some ancient legends and interpretations of mysterious runes. She opened the scroll and searched carefully, hoping to find records about breaking curses or similar situations.
Seeing that Wanru was making a move, everyone gathered around, a spark of hope igniting in their eyes.
Wanru carefully flipped through the book, her fingers gliding rapidly across the pages, her eyes focused and eager. Suddenly, her finger stopped on a page, and a look of surprise appeared on her face. "Look here! It says there's an ancient method to break a curse. It requires finding fragments of memories from someone or something related to the curse, piecing them together, and perhaps then the curse can be broken," she said excitedly.
Upon hearing this, everyone's hearts stirred, but they quickly fell into deep thought.
"Fragments of memories related to people or things connected to the curse? What could that be?" the woman in black robes asked, frowning.
Huanmo's mind raced through all the people and events they had encountered along the way, from the initial meeting with the woman in black robes in the forest, to the battles with various mysterious monsters, and then to the perilous journey through this valley. "Could it be related to the mysterious forces we've experienced along the way? Like that ancient forbidden power, or perhaps the power contained in the mask behind the black-robed monster?" he speculated.
Everyone nodded in agreement, agreeing that Huanmo's words made some sense.
So, everyone decided to calm down and recall the bits and pieces of their journey, trying to find fragments of memory that might be related to the spell.
Huanmo closed his eyes, his mind replaying past scenes like a movie. He remembered the first time he felt that mysterious, watchful gaze in the forest, a gaze that seemed to conceal a great secret; he also remembered the ancient forbidden power the black-robed woman had initially mentioned, a power that, if awakened, could plunge the world into chaos; and the strange light released when the mask shattered during his battle with the black-robed monster, and the evil power gushing from the stone coffin…
Wanru was also trying to recall, remembering the inexplicable fear she had felt at certain crucial moments, such as when she was sucked into the castle, and the feeling of being shrouded in dark power when facing the two-headed beast. She felt that these fears might also be related to the spell.
The woman in black robes, the man in white, the man in green robes, and Qingwan were all immersed in their own memories, sorting through their past experiences from different perspectives, trying to find those key fragments of memory.
Time passed slowly in the silent cave. Beads of sweat gradually appeared on everyone's foreheads. Their expressions were sometimes focused, sometimes confused, and sometimes revealed a hint of surprise, as if they were constantly scooping up possible hope from the sea of memories.
After a long and arduous process of recalling and sorting through memories, everyone finally found some fragments of memories that they thought might be related to the spell. Wanru laid these fragments out on the ground one by one, and everyone sat together, beginning to try to piece them together.
The process of piecing them together was not easy. Some fragments seemed to fit together, but upon closer inspection, something felt off. The group kept adjusting the positions of the fragments, muttering incantations, hoping to perfectly fuse them together through some mysterious connection.
Just when everyone thought they were close to success, a sudden gust of wind swept through the cave. The wind howled, whipping up moss and water droplets from the ground, and rushed towards them. Caught off guard by the sudden wind, the fragments of memory in their hands were blown away and scattered in all directions.
"Ah! What's going on?" Wanru exclaimed in surprise.
Everyone hurriedly got up, trying to retrieve the scattered fragments of memory.
However, just as they were in a panic, the old voice came from the depths of the cave again: "Memories can be pieced together, but the truth is hard to find completely. The truth you seek transcends the shackles of time and space. If you do not understand the mystery within, breaking the curse will be in vain."
The sound faded, leaving everyone standing there, bewildered and despairing. Transcending the bonds of time and space? What did that mean? Could they truly unravel its secrets, break the spell, obtain the ancient artifact, rescue Huanmo, and find a true way out?
