Chapter 63 Deep in the Mist and a Mysterious Figure
Chapter 63 Deep in the Mist and a Mysterious Figure
In this land shrouded in a hazy, gray mist, everyone found it increasingly difficult to breathe. Each breath felt like a heavy weight of lead, pressing down on their lungs. The faint cries and the howling of mysterious forces intertwined, echoing in this silent and eerie space, like wails from the netherworld, sending chills down their spines.
Huanmo gripped Wanru's hand tightly, trying to comfort her, but his own palms were already sweaty. He watched the enormous figure gradually appearing ahead warily, a strong sense of unease rising within him. "What kind of place is this? Everything about it is eerie. I wonder if we can find any clues to break the spell, or if we can leave safely..." he pondered to himself, his brows furrowed tightly.
Wanru nestled beside Huanmo, her body trembling slightly. Her gaze was fixed on the blurry figure, her eyes filled with fear. "Huanmo, I'm so scared. I feel like this thing is so powerful. What if we..." Her voice trembled noticeably, but the words caught in her throat from fear.
The woman in black robes stood at the forefront, gripping a long black sword tightly. Her gaze was solemn and resolute. Although her heart was filled with worry, she knew she had to remain calm and give everyone courage. "Don't panic, everyone. Whatever this is, let's observe it first. Perhaps it holds the key information we're looking for," she said in a low voice, trying to make her words sound more confident.
The man in white held a jade flute, his eyes slightly narrowed as he intently sensed the changes in the surrounding aura. He knew the situation was critical, but the more dangerous the moment, the more crucial it was to remain calm and analyze the situation. "This aura is peculiar; it seems unlike any other mysterious power we've encountered before. Everyone must be careful," he whispered to the others, his fingers unconsciously tracing the surface of the jade flute.
The man in the green robe and Qingwan leaned on each other, their spiritual energy not yet fully recovered from the battle. Facing this unknown threat, they felt even more powerless. But their eyes still held a stubbornness, refusing to give up easily. "Don't be afraid, we'll face it together, there'll always be a way," the man in the green robe softly comforted Qingwan, while also encouraging himself.
The white tiger followed closely behind Huanmo, its blue eyes flashing with vigilance, and it occasionally let out a low growl, as if it were taunting the mysterious figure.
As the enormous figure became clearer, the crowd finally discerned its general appearance. It was a monster as large as a mountain, its body covered in black scales, each scale shimmering with a cold, eerie light, like an evil armor born from the darkness. Its head was enormous, resembling a dragon, its eyes like burning flames, radiating a scorching and malevolent light. From its gaping maw, fangs clashed, constantly dripping green slime and emitting a pungent stench.
"What...what kind of monster is this? How can it be so terrifying?" Wanru was so frightened that her face turned pale, and she subconsciously hid behind Huanmo.
Huanmo's heart suddenly raced, and he felt as if something was stuck in his throat, rendering him speechless for a moment. Facing such a powerful monster, he knew that in their current state, defeating it would be no easy task. "Everyone be careful, try not to confront it head-on, and see if we can find its weakness first," he managed to squeeze out, his voice hoarse with tension.
The woman in black nodded slightly. She gripped her longsword and moved lightly around the monster, trying to observe its weaknesses from different angles. The man in white followed suit, gently blowing on his jade flute to emit faint sound waves, hoping to understand the monster's internal structure and find potential weaknesses through the reflection of the sound waves.
The man in the green robe and Qingwan cast some auxiliary spells on the side, trying to interfere with the monster's perception and prevent it from accurately judging the group's location for the time being.
However, the monster seemed to sense their actions. It suddenly let out a deafening roar, which exploded like thunder in the misty space, making everyone's ears ring and their heads spin.
Immediately afterwards, the monster swung its enormous claws and pounced towards the group. The claws created a gust of wind, dispersing some of the surrounding mist and revealing a small, clearer area.
"Oh no, get out of the way!" the woman in black shouted, leaping to the side to dodge.
Everyone reacted quickly, using their movement techniques to desperately dodge the monster's attacks. Huanmo, trapped in the light of the jade box, moved slightly slower, but he still managed to dodge to the side with all his might, narrowly avoiding the monster's claws.
While dodging, Wanru tripped over a protruding rock and fell forward. "Ah!" she cried out in surprise.
Seeing this, Huanmo was extremely anxious. Disregarding his own safety, he rushed towards Wanru, trying to pull her up before the monster attacked again.
At this critical moment, the white tiger suddenly darted out, rushing to Wanru's side at incredible speed and using its body to block the monster's descending claws.
"White Tiger!" Huanmo cried out in anguish. He watched helplessly as White Tiger was struck by the monster's claws, its body flying out like a cannonball and crashing heavily to the ground with a painful howl.
"No!" Wanru cried out as well, struggling to get up from the ground and trying to run to the white tiger's side.
The monster, having succeeded in its attack, did not stop there. It swung its claws again and pounced towards the location where Huanmo and Wanru were.
Seeing this, a resolute glint flashed in the black-robed woman's eyes. Holding her longsword, she moved with lightning speed, charging towards the monster. As she approached, she leaped high into the air, her longsword plunging fiercely towards the monster's eyes.
"Die!" she shouted, and with all her might, she plunged her longsword into the monster's eye.
The monster, in pain, let out an even more shrill roar, frantically shaking its head in an attempt to throw the woman in black off. The woman in black gripped her longsword tightly, her body swaying back and forth in the air with the monster's movements, but she never let go of the sword in her hand.
Seeing this, the man in white held back no longer. He blew his jade flute with all his might, unleashing a powerful sonic attack that shot directly towards the monster's other eye.
The man in the green robe and Qingwan simultaneously unleashed their strongest attack spells, striking the monster's abdomen.
With everyone working together, the monster was gradually defeated. Its movements became slower and slower, and its roars grew weaker and weaker.
Finally, the monster crashed to the ground, its massive body slamming into the earth and kicking up a cloud of dust and mist. Exhausted and panting, everyone collapsed to the ground, their faces a mixture of weariness and relief.
"Finally... finally defeated it." Huanmo said, panting heavily. His gaze fell on the white tiger lying not far away, his eyes filled with heartache and guilt.
Wanru had already run to Baihu's side. She gently stroked Baihu's body, tears streaming down her face. "Baihu, you must get better," she said, her voice choked with sobs.
Just as everyone was resting briefly, preparing to get up and check if the monster was truly dead and to look for any clues that might break the spell, suddenly, a ghostly green light floated out from the monster's corpse. The light slowly condensed into a human shape, and an old man dressed in ancient clothing appeared before them.
"You've finally arrived. I've been waiting for you for a long time," the old man said slowly, his voice calm yet carrying a mysterious aura.
Everyone stared at the old man in astonishment, their hearts filled with questions. "Who are you? Why did you emerge from the monster's corpse?" the woman in black robes asked first. She forced herself to stand up, still gripping her longsword tightly, and looked at the old man warily.
"Who I am is not important. What is important is that you have finally come this far and found this place. However, if you want to truly break the spell and obtain the ancient artifact, you still have a long way to go, and even greater dangers await you ahead." The old man said with a smile, but his words made everyone's hearts sink to the bottom.
"An even bigger crisis? What is it? What should we do?" Huanmo asked anxiously. He struggled to his feet, walked to Wanru and Baihu, and gently stroked Baihu's head, hoping it would recover quickly.
The old man did not answer Huanmo's question directly, but slowly turned around and walked into the depths of the mist. "Come with me, you will know." His voice came from afar, echoing in the silent space.
The group exchanged bewildered glances, unsure whether to trust the suddenly appearing old man. But at this moment, they seemed to have no other choice. To find clues to break the curse, to save Huanmo, and to obtain the ancient artifact, they had no choice but to follow.
So, supporting each other, they slowly followed the old man into the depths of the mist. They didn't know what awaited them, only that a new unknown was approaching. Could they trust the old man? And could they find the key to breaking the spell in the journey ahead? Everything remained uncertain, and they could only continue groping their way forward through this unknown fog.
