Chapter 93: Crisis Amidst Surrounding Allies and the First Signs of Opportunity

Huanmo stared at the spot where the light screen had disappeared, a wave of despair washing over him. He slumped to the ground, his eyes filled with confusion and helplessness. The surroundings were eerily quiet, with only his slightly rapid breathing echoing in the empty space. It felt as if he were the only person left in the world. His companions, who had traveled with him, were nowhere to be found, and the light screen that led to their location had vanished without a trace. Huanmo felt as if he had been cruelly mocked by fate.

"Ling'er... Sister in black robes... Brother in white robes... I must find you!" Huanmo gritted his teeth, silently vowing in his heart. He forced down his panic, slowly stood up, and surveyed his surroundings. This was a desolate land. The ground beneath his feet was cracked and parched, the fissures like the parched lips of the earth, telling of its aridity and barrenness. In the distance, a gray haze stretched out, with some craggy hills faintly visible. The shapes of the rocks were bizarre, some resembling ferocious beasts, others like menacing demons, adding to the eerie atmosphere under the gloomy sky.

Huanmo took a deep breath, gripped his sword tightly, and walked towards the small hill. With each step, a cloud of dust rose from his feet, swirling in the air and causing him to cough slightly. He knew he was in the unknown, and danger could strike at any moment, but the thought of Ling'er and the others waiting for him gave him the courage to continue.

In that dreamlike yet perilous fairyland, the black-robed woman, the white-clad man, and Ling'er faced increasingly dire circumstances. Wave after wave of birds crashed against the shield, and with a crisp "crack," the shield finally shattered, sparks of spiritual energy exploding around them like dazzling yet dangerous fireworks.

The woman in black robes had a grave expression, and she swung her sword even faster, each strike aimed precisely at the swooping birds. But the birds were incredibly agile, always managing to dodge her attacks before charging again. Ling'er hid behind the woman in black robes, her small hands clutching the hem of her clothes tightly, her eyes filled with terror, murmuring, "Why isn't brother coming yet? Ling'er is so scared."

The man in white also frowned. He played his jade flute, trying to recreate the shield, while observing his surroundings, trying to find a weakness in the birds or a way to get rid of them. He thought to himself, "This seemingly beautiful fairyland actually hides such ferocious creatures. There must be something strange about it. If I can find the root cause, perhaps I can resolve this crisis."

Just as everyone was struggling to cope, suddenly, as if receiving some kind of command, the birds stopped attacking. They circled in the air a few times, then flew towards the distant mountains, disappearing in the mist that shrouded the mountains in the blink of an eye.

The woman in black robes and her companions breathed a sigh of relief, but before they could even recover, their surroundings began to change. The once fragrant sea of flowers rapidly withered, their vibrant colors fading into a somber gray, petals falling like a mournful rain. The pale blue grass beneath their feet turned yellow, the glistening dewdrops vanished, and the ground cracked, gradually resembling the desolate wasteland of Huanmo's territory.

"What's going on? This place seems to be getting more and more eerie." The woman in black robes looked at the changes around her, her vigilance growing stronger.

The man in white stood up, gazing intently at the mist that still shone with a mysterious light among the distant mountains, and said, "It seems we have to go over there and investigate. Perhaps the reason for all these changes is hidden behind that mist."

Although Ling'er was frightened, seeing the resolute expressions of the woman in black and the man in white, she obediently nodded and followed them towards the mountains. Along the way, the sky gradually darkened, and dark clouds began to gather, like a huge black curtain pressing down on them, making it hard to breathe. Occasionally, a cold wind would blow, carrying a chill, rustling the grass, as if some unknown force was watching them from the shadows.

As Huanmo approached the small hill, a suffocating atmosphere grew stronger. Passing through a narrow valley, towering cliffs rose on either side, leaving only a sliver of light overhead. Huanmo walked cautiously when suddenly the ground beneath his feet began to shift. Startled, he leaped aside, only to find a deep, dark pit where he had stood. A faint, putrid stench emanated from the pit, as if something had been rotting there for a long time.

"That was close!" Huanmo wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. Just as he regained his footing, he heard a deep roar coming from the depths of the valley. The roar seemed to pierce through eardrums and strike straight to the heart, causing his heart to pound rapidly. Huanmo gripped his sword tightly, assumed a defensive stance, and stared intently in the direction from which the sound came. He saw a gigantic beast slowly emerge. Its body was covered in sharp bone spikes, its eyes were like two lanterns burning with green flames, and its gaping maw opened and closed, revealing sharp fangs. With each step it took, the ground trembled slightly.

Huanmo inwardly groaned, but there was no turning back now. He encouraged himself, "No matter what kind of monster you are, I will not back down easily. I still need to find Ling'er and the others!" With that, he charged towards the ferocious beast, his sword flashing with spiritual energy as he slashed fiercely at it.

The ferocious beast neither dodged nor evaded, taking the sword strike head-on. The sword landed on its body, only sending up a few sparks, failing to harm it in the slightest. The beast roared and swung its claw with tremendous force, slapping towards Huanmo. Huanmo quickly dodged to the side, but the force of the claw still stung his cheek.

On the other side, the woman in black robes and her companions finally arrived at the misty place nestled among the mountains. The mist seemed to possess a mind of its own, slowly parting to create a passage as they approached, as if inviting them in. The man in white hesitated for a moment, then stepped inside, the woman in black robes pulling Ling'er close behind.

As soon as they entered the fog, they felt as if they had entered another world. All around them was a vast expanse of white, and they could not see anything clearly. They could only hear some strange sounds in their ears, as if someone was crying softly, or as if something was whispering, which made them feel uneasy.

"Where is this place?" Ling'er clung tightly to the black-robed woman's arm, her voice trembling with tears.

The woman in black gently patted Ling'er's hand and comforted her, "Don't be afraid, your sister is here. We will definitely find a way out and we will definitely be able to reunite with Huanmo."

Just then, the man in white suddenly stopped. He seemed to have seen something unbelievable; his eyes widened, his face filled with shock. The woman in black and Ling'er followed his gaze, but they too were speechless at the sight before them. In the mist, a massive palace faintly emerged, radiating an eerie light. That light seemed to possess a magical power, drawing people in while simultaneously filling them with fear. What secrets did this palace hold? Would they be able to unravel the mystery and reunite with Huanmo? Everything remained unknown; danger still lurked in the shadows, waiting for them…
