Chapter 366 Mom is back
Chapter 366 Mom is back
Xiao Huai jumped into my arms: "I'm awake! Aunt Zhang said Mom will be back early today, so I'm waiting."
I patted her little head, feeling a surge of warmth in my heart, and decided to go home early today.
"Madam is back," said Aunt Zhang, the nanny, softly. "Xiao Huai just finished drinking her milk and is feeling quite energetic."
I put down my bag and tiptoed toward the nursery. When I opened the door, I saw Xiao Huai lying in the crib, waving her little hands and feet in the air. When she saw me come in, she immediately giggled.
“Baby,” I bent down and picked him up, “Mommy’s back.”
Six-month-old Xiao Huai can already recognize people. She reached out her chubby little hands and grabbed my collar, making babbling sounds. I held her and walked slowly around the room, smelling her faint milky scent, and all the fatigue of the day seemed to disappear.
"Madam," Aunt Zhang said, bringing in a warmed baby bottle, "it's time to feed her."
I took the bottle and sat down in the rocking chair. As soon as Xiao Huai saw the bottle, he eagerly opened his little mouth. I gently put the nipple to his lips, and he immediately began to suckle vigorously.
"Were you good today?" I asked softly.
Aunt Zhang said with a smile, "She's so well-behaved. After waking up from her afternoon nap, she kept looking towards the door, as if she was waiting for you to come back."
My heart warmed, and I looked down at the little one in my arms. His eyelashes were long and thick, fluttering as he drank milk; he was incredibly cute.
After feeding him, I gently patted his back to help him burp. Little Huai let out a satisfied burp, then leaned against my shoulder, playing with my hair with his little hands.
"Madam," Aunt Zhang gently reminded her, "you have to get up early tomorrow..."
I shook my head: "Let me hug you a little longer."
My phone vibrated; it was a message from Jiang Yichen: "Wife, I'll be home in five minutes."
I replied, "I'll be waiting for you at home."
I put down my phone and continued to gently rock Xiao Huai in my arms. She gradually became sleepy, her little head nodding, but her little hands were still tightly gripping the hem of my clothes.
“Sleep well, baby,” I whispered. “Mommy is here.”
Finally, Xiao Huai fell asleep completely. I carefully placed him in his crib and covered him with a small blanket. Looking at his peaceful sleeping face, I couldn't help but gently kiss his forehead.
Stepping out of the nursery, I glanced towards the study. A pile of documents awaited processing on the table, but at that moment, all I wanted was to savor this precious time with my child.
"Aunt Zhang," I said softly, "I'll keep watch tonight."
"But..."
“It’s okay,” I smiled, “I want to spend more time with her.”
Just as I was humming a lullaby, the door was gently pushed open. Jiang Yichen stood in the doorway, his suit jacket draped over his arm and his tie slightly loose, clearly having just returned from a business dinner.
"Still not asleep?" he asked in a low voice.
I gestured for silence and pointed to Xiao Huai, who was fast asleep in the crib. Jiang Yichen tiptoed over, bent down to look at our child, his eyes filled with tenderness.
"Why are you up so early today?" he asked softly.
"I want to spend more time with Xiao Huai," I replied softly.
Jiang Yichen sat down beside me and gently touched Xiao Huai's face. The little guy stirred in his sleep, his little hand unconsciously grasping his father's fingers.
“I’ll take you to the company tomorrow,” Jiang Yichen said, “so that Xiao Huai can sleep a little longer.”
I leaned on his shoulder, savoring this rare moment of tranquility.
As night deepened, moonlight streamed through the gaps in the curtains, casting dappled shadows on the nursery floor. Jiang Yichen's hand was still resting on Xiao Huai's cheek. The little one unconsciously rubbed against his father's palm in his sleep, uttering a few indistinct murmurs.
"Momo," Jiang Yichen suddenly spoke, his voice low, "There's something I need to tell you."
I looked up and, by the moonlight, saw his brows furrowed slightly. A sense of foreboding suddenly washed over me.
"I'm ready to cooperate with Zhao Xing," he said.
I sat bolt upright: "Zhao Xing? That General Manager Zhao from last time?"
Jiang Yichen nodded, his fingers unconsciously stroking the crib railing of Xiao Huai: "He has a piece of land in a very good location, which is very suitable for the development of our new project."
"But..." I hesitated for a moment, "How could it be so sudden?"
Jiang Yichen's lips curled into a cold smile: "Yes, I also found out that he has some connection with Lin Qing. They've been in frequent contact lately, and..." He took out his phone and pulled up a document, "Take a look at this."
I took the phone; the screen displayed a chart of fund flows. Zhao Xing's company had recently received several large sums of money, all from overseas accounts, and the recipients were none other than shell companies under Lin Qing's name.
"Are they laundering money?" I exclaimed in a low voice.
“Not only that,” Jiang Yichen put his phone away, “I suspect they’re setting up a much bigger scheme. Lin Qing suffered a loss at your hands last time, and this time she wants to use Zhao Xing to get revenge.”
I instinctively hugged Xiao Huai tighter in my arms. The little guy seemed to sense my tension and stirred restlessly in his sleep. Jiang Yichen reached out and gently patted his back, and Xiao Huai calmed down again.
"So you're going to cooperate with Zhao Xing?" I asked, frowning. "Isn't that jumping into a fire pit?"
A glint of shrewdness flashed in Jiang Yichen's eyes: "Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I've already planted spies in Zhao Xing's company. As long as they dare to make a move, we'll have something to hold against them."
Looking at his confident demeanor, I suddenly realized something: "You're thinking of... turning the tables on me?"
“That’s right,” Jiang Yichen gently grasped my hand, “but this is dangerous. Lin Qing and Zhao Xing are not good people, and I’m worried they might target you and Xiao Huai.”
I looked down at Xiao Huai, who was fast asleep in my arms. His rosy little face still had a sweet smile on it, completely unaware of how dangerous the outside world was.
“I will be careful,” I whispered, “but you must promise me that you will take good care of yourself.”
Jiang Yichen reached out and pulled me into his arms, his chin gently resting on the top of my head: "Don't worry, I'll be fine for your sake."
We nestled together quietly like that, with Xiao Huai beside us.
“Oh, right,” Jiang Yichen suddenly remembered something, “I had Lin Nan arrange a few bodyguards to secretly protect you and Xiao Huai starting tomorrow. On the surface, they’ll be the new driver and nanny.”
I nodded: "Okay."
"Also," his voice suddenly turned serious, "try not to go out alone lately, especially when meeting clients. Lin Qing knows you care about Xiao Huai the most, and I'm worried she might..."
I understand what he meant. The business world is like a battlefield; some people will use any means necessary for profit.
“I understand,” I said softly. “I will be careful.”
Jiang Yichen lowered his head and gently kissed my forehead: "Go to sleep, we have to get up early tomorrow."
