Chapter 292 Voss breaks in

Mike Douglas stood before the radio, looking at the reports before him. He gripped the radio tightly in his hand; the reports clearly described the current situation.

"The air assault brigade has arrived and is refueling the air transport regiment."

"The air assault brigade is setting up barracks, and it is expected to be completed within two days."

Two routine reports were meant to reassure Mike Douglas and allow him to begin the next phase of his plan, but soon, a third telegram caused the situation to take a sharp turn for the worse.

"Worth Airfield under attack! Repeat, Worth Airfield under attack! The enemy has taken control of the camp, the tarmac, and the armory! We need support—"

The urgent telegram was cut off before it was even finished. Who was the enemy? What was the current situation at Worth Airport? They had no idea, and the 1st Air Assault Brigade stationed there was also out of contact.

"Labor syndicate? Allied powers?"

Mike Douglas looked at the fourth report, the one he had urgently contacted with troops east of Worth Airport, and the news that came back was far from optimistic.

The United States Army and Air Force, currently pushing eastward, are encountering multiple forces. Confederate troops are advancing northward at overwhelming capacity, attempting to halt the United States forces at the edge of the Iron Belt. Meanwhile, the active labor corps militia constantly threaten the United States forces, supply lines are riddled with holes, and sniper fire and artillery fire are rampant…

To be fair, the Allied Powers' move did give the syndicate time to react, and Jack Reed even had the opportunity to consolidate some power in his own hands and issue a decisive decree.

The troops were reduced in size, relying on AR-10 automatic rifles and M72 rocket launchers produced by the arsenals to form the core of the land infantry. At the same time, they continued to produce cheap armored vehicles and wheeled anti-tank self-propelled guns, while mobilizing workers to repair the defensive lines.

This did indeed yield results. In the southeast, the labor union forces recaptured the northern part of the special zone, and the newly constructed northern special zone defense line successfully blocked the offensive of the Southeastern Allied forces.

The United States has nearly lost its advantage in the East, and its military presence is no longer what it was at the start of the war.

Now that Worth Airport had been captured, Mike Douglas had lost all face. He slammed his walkie-talkie to the ground and looked at his men, saying, "What are you all looking at? Where are our troops? Where are the troops of the United States? Why can't you even hold an airport?"

Mike Douglas roared, the room seemingly distorted by the heat. Little did he know that the fall of Worth Airport was not so simple.

Alice sat below the airport control tower. Worth Airport was a local airport, one of many in every state in Columbia. The simple, paved runways and the hastily set up open-air aircraft parking areas couldn't support the takeoff and landing of jet fighters, but they could accommodate transport planes like the C-130.

"how?"

"Comrade Alice, we have made great gains. A large number of enemy weapons have been captured intact, and we have twelve transport planes that can take off and 45 M35 trucks that can be used."

Alice nodded, looking at Tukhachevsna, a petite woman of dwarf-human mixed heritage who carried an AKS-74U short assault rifle.

“The prisoners are in high spirits right now. They were clashing with the military police before we stormed the airport, and now some of them are demanding that the military police be severely punished. I think we can recruit the soldiers among them who are willing to join us.”

"Who are these people mainly?"

"They mistook us for a syndicate, a unit whose home base was mostly in the Steel Belt, and there were many syndicate supporters in the military... Most of the soldiers in the 1st Airborne Brigade were familiar with airborne operations experts, which is why Mike Douglas reinforced them with an entire military police company."

Alice nodded, and the rifle leaned against her chair.

"We can't possibly take all these planes and trucks with us, can we?"

“That’s right, the target is too big, but these advanced trucks and planes are very useful to us, which is why some comrades disagree with your idea and they want to take them all.”

"How is that possible? Although the airspace over Colombia is basically clear now, the air defense positions in each state are very tight... I think we shouldn't even take any more trucks, they're too big of a target."

Alice stood up, gripping the AK, her mind clearing as she thought: "Who disagrees?"

"They were some former comrades from the Workers' Union, and some comrades from the Southern Roman Empire... Their view was that we cannot give up our revolutionary weapons."

"Moreover, a small number of comrades have requested to be stationed here. The trade union has several units in this area, and we should bring them together and establish a base."

Alice shook her head, draped her coat over her shoulders, and led Tukhachevsna toward the makeshift operations room: “Our most important asset has never been our weapons, but our comrades. Let’s have a meeting to resolve these issues.”

Kansas is not a place to linger; it is the front line of the battlefield, and the Revolutionary Front of Colombia is still not qualified to participate in a war of this magnitude.

They were untrained guerrillas, untrained troops capable of frontal combat, and lacked heavy firepower. On the plains, they had no advantage over the civil warring parties equipped with tanks, planes, and artillery.

They were able to capture Voss Airfield entirely because of a surprise attack launched by lightly armed troops. If there hadn't been no heavily armed troops stationed there, they wouldn't have been able to take it at all.

Alice looked at the trenches and positions on the outskirts. When they stormed the airport, there were hardly any people on these positions. But when they stormed into the camp area, it was the time when the air assault brigade and the military police were clashing.

The 1st Air Assault Brigade had no morale whatsoever. Their commander was imprisoned by the military police and was to be investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Alice knew that her troops had similar thoughts. The troops were a mixed bag, and a considerable number of comrades still did not understand what they were fighting for, and even if they did, they were not interested.

How could she possibly win with such a force? Alice knew that once they reached the revolutionary base along the coast, the Universal Star Organization would immediately send troops to her, and then she would have everything she needed.

But having everything doesn't guarantee their success. Alice hopes her troops will be more than just troops; they should also become a revolutionary propaganda team and a revolutionary training team.

Revolutionary fighters must first understand why they are fighting and for whom they are fighting.

It's not for her, but for the people of this land. At least they should know that their battles today will bring them rewards tomorrow.

She neither wanted to be a revolutionary aristocrat nor a red emperor.
