Chapter 418 Rushing Towards the Edge of Hell
Chapter 418 Rushing Towards the Edge of Hell
As Lorraine sped away down the opposite cliff face, the Scarlet Crusaders, torch-wielding warriors, charged down in his direction from above...
Leader 'Purifier' Jordan and 'Warrior' Herod from the monastery, each leading a paladin and a priest respectively, charged down the stairs from opposite sides. One of their groups was bound to run into Lorraine.
"Hurry up! I sense evil. Warriors, purify them... My people are suffering!"
"Yes, don't let any suspected infected individuals escape! Kill them all..."
The Scarlet Crusade had no intention of letting any potential enemies on Redemption Isle escape. Upon hearing the devastating news of the undead massacre of Hillsbrad's inhabitants, Jordan and Herod were filled with righteous indignation. Both of them were true pious members of the Scarlet Crusade.
Herod has always considered it his mission to eliminate the undead and save Lordaeron or all ordinary people threatened by evil forces.
Jordan was a renowned sage... his staff was more famous than he himself... mainly because most of his followers were bald monks... in reality, they were mostly muscular ascetics, and among his followers were priests, mages, monks, knights-errant, and necromancers...
Both of them are instructors in the Scarlet Crusade... mid-level generals and mentors...
Unlike High Inquisitor Iselien of Hearthglen, and the commanders of Scarlet Monastery—the infamous "dog couple" Renault & Mograine Jr. and White & Mann—and Archbishop Tristana of Tyr's Hand, the lower-ranking officers and priests of the Scarlet Crusade genuinely wanted to save more civilians...
Unfortunately, they couldn't control the situation and were always manipulated and deceived. Their thinking was too simplistic and direct; they only saw revenge and the holy light, which led them to become fanatical and insane...
Many members of the Scarlet Crusade were weak-willed, inexperienced, and of average strength. They were simply a group of rebels who had been repeatedly brainwashed, trained, and oppressed... all the while yearning to restore their nation and save their people.
Before true demons, we are ultimately just slightly more powerful mortals...
The group had been in the dungeon for some time, but they hadn't reached the bottom yet.
The Crimson Archmage, the Purifier Jordan, raised his staff and unleashed a fireball towards the abyss... The fireball fell directly below, illuminating the walls covered with the victims. Jordan frowned; they had found the missing civilians and soldiers...
These offerings and corpses, nailed to the walls and hung on iron hooks, were the targets that the Scarlet Crusade fleet had been desperately searching for on the nearby islands.
They should have come to Atonement Island long ago; the island is significantly larger than the surrounding reefs.
However, previous intelligence indicated that Atonement Island had been abandoned for many years.
There were no signs of human activity on the island until the mayor of Hillsbrad, Boone, rebelled... Some people witnessed large numbers of refugees rowing small boats and sitting in barrels on their way to Atonement Island.
As a result, these people all vanished into thin air...
The Scarlet Fleet had never approached the shore to search, and the Gilneans had previously forbade them from getting close, even resorting to artillery fire. Now, however, the situation was different. Admiral Barry of the Scarlet Fleet and the young Scarlet Highlord Tyrann & Fordring had temporarily formed an alliance with the Alliance, their target being the Forsaken of Undercity.
The Crimson Fleet was ordered to help rescue the refugees, which is why Jordan and Herder led their troops here.
......
Herod, the warrior wielding the Champion's Blade, a whirlwind axe-shaped weapon, is the arena champion of the Crusaders... a fiery berserker, wearing a Berserker's Helmet with heavy shoulder armor for charging... wielding the Destroyer's Battle Axe... he is also an instructor at Scarlet Monastery and the general of the armory...
His participation in the war indicates that the Scarlet Monastery, the Kul Tiras Islands, and parts of the islands along the coast of Lordaeron and the straits have already been occupied by the Scarlet Crusade... This is not a good sign for the Horde and Undercity.
Scarlet Monastery, Hearthglen, Stratholme, and even the area around Southshore, Gilneas Bay, and Stromgarde are all in their hands...
Undercity faces constant threats from the sea...
The Queen's Dark Tide navy is embroiled in trouble near Silvermoon City again...unable to extricate themselves. Lordaeron is not safe...the Forsaken are constantly at risk of being betrayed or ambushed. However, that's a matter for the Horde commander to consider; for Lorraine, a mere soldier, escaping is the priority!
......
Back in the abandoned dungeon beneath the lighthouse on Atonement Island...
The Scarlet Warrior Herold moved swiftly. Despite being clad in heavy armor, he led a group of paladins charging down the right fork in the road, far ahead of the ornately dressed Scarlet priests wearing bishop's hats and calling themselves judges...
Seeing Herold charging too fast, and Jordan almost out of sight of the opposing team from the side, the Crimson Archmage Jordan shouted, "Herold, don't be impulsive! We need to hold them off. Teamwork is crucial; you need the Priest and the Musketeers' support..."
Jordan's voice echoed in the deep, empty tower-shaped space.
Herod ignored him, wearing a full-coverage blood-red horned plate armor that only revealed his eyes, resembling a full-coverage steel helmet... He was panting heavily, gripping his whirlwind battle axe, and sweat was seeping out.
Jordan didn't know that Herold had grown up near Southshore and this was not his first time on Atonement Island... He was very familiar with this place. When he was a child, he had even seen a fissure in the ground that led directly to the lava layer. This place was suspected to be the interface between two torn continents, a lava fault covered by seawater.
I once came to this deserted island on the small boat of fishing masters Nat & Pad. Back then, the fisherman Nat said it was hell island, which terrified the young children like Herder, Reno, and White & Maine.
Twenty or thirty years later, Herod had become one of the most outstanding Scarlet Warriors. When he first arrived on the island and realized this was the legendary hellish island of his childhood, the fearless warrior Herod couldn't help but swallow hard, gripping the handle of his axe tightly. He had a feeling that something terrifying must be lurking beneath the dungeons...
Hilder charged ahead, finally seeing the scene at the bottom of the dungeon: a strange altar hung with iron chains, its base littered with human corpses. His first noticeable sight, however, was the ghouls summoned by Lorraine...
Just as he was about to charge with his double-handed axe, he discovered a monster covered in tentacles high up on the altar, which was engulfing and devouring the ghouls.
Not far away, a smaller group of tentacle monsters... were also devouring the scattered remains and sucking blood from the pool of blood...
Hernold knew instinctively that the giant monster was the real threat... But then a scream came from above. Hernold looked up and saw his companion, also dressed in blood-red battle robes, falling like raindrops.
A fight broke out on the other side of the steps. The unlucky ones were knocked down; those who fell to the bottom of the cliff were instantly incinerated by the lava, while those who landed in front of the Faceless Ones were drained of their life force right before the eyes of Herold and Relian...
The humans present were immediately horrified, realizing why the evil necromancer Lorraine had turned and run away earlier...
