Chapter 171 Power Outage

Chapter 171 Power Outage

Shen Nian patted her chest and calmed herself down for a while before she recovered.

Then she finally found her phone, turned on the flashlight, and finally there was light.

The cup has shattered, and shards of glass are scattered all over the floor.

Shen Nian prepared to find a broom to sweep, so that people wouldn't accidentally step on it and get scratched when they came to work tomorrow.

Holding her phone's flashlight, she went to the storage room, found a broom, returned to her workstation, put her phone on the table, and began cleaning up the cup she had just broken.

She brought this cup from her dorm room and had been using it for several years. It didn't cost much money, but she was so used to it that she had developed an attachment to it, so it was a little painful to break it.

She was cleaning diligently. After sweeping up the large shards of glass, she squatted down with her phone to check for any smaller pieces. As she was looking at the glass, she suddenly heard a soft cough behind her, followed by the sound of someone speaking.

"What are you doing?"

Shen Nian was startled again, and almost dropped her phone.

"Ah!" she couldn't help but scream, even closing her eyes.

Chen Ran was also holding his phone with the flashlight on, looking at Shen Nian lying on the ground in a comical manner, wondering what she was doing.

He was working overtime in the small conference room revising the plan and hadn't paid attention to the time when the power suddenly went out. His computer still had power, so he finished the last bit of work before coming out of the small conference room. When he came out, he saw Shen Nian lying on the ground.

He couldn't help but ask her what she was doing.

Shen Nian was truly terrified this time. She closed her eyes, too afraid to turn around, and asked in a trembling voice, "Who...who are you?"

Chen Ran raised an eyebrow, and two simple words rang in Shen Nian's ears in a deep voice, "Chen Ran."

Shen Nian was startled, then slowly opened her eyes, turned her head and looked up. It really was Chen Ran.

She got up from the ground, holding a broom in one hand, which looked very strange to Chen Ran.

Shen Nian let out a heavy sigh of relief. "Why haven't you left yet? You scared me to death!"

Who would have thought there were still people in the company?

Chen Ran had a backpack slung over one shoulder, wore a sports jacket, and had his hair dyed chestnut brown. The dim light from his phone illuminated half of his face, making him look like a cool and handsome young man straight out of a comic book.

"I was revising the plan in the conference room and didn't pay attention to the time," he explained to Shen Nian.

Then, glancing down at the broom in Shen Nian's hand, he asked her again, "What are you doing?"

Shen Nian glanced down at the broom in her hand and the dustpan beside her, and shrugged. "The power suddenly went out, and the cup accidentally broke. I'm cleaning up the glass shards."

Chen Ran shone his phone's flashlight at the floor behind her, took a step forward, and walked up to Shen Nian, saying, "I'll do it."

Then he took the broom from her hand and started sweeping for Shen Nian.

Shen Nian was stunned for a moment, looking at Chen Ran who was squatting down to look for glass shards just like her, before she came back to her senses.

She quickly said, "No, let me do it."

Then he squatted down, ready to clean up the mess himself.

Perhaps because she's been living alone for so long, she's now finding it a little uncomfortable to have anyone other than the older man do the cleanup for her.

Chen Ran simply said softly, "Go stand over there, don't get it cut."

Shen Nian had no choice but to stand up and step aside. She watched as Chen Ran cleaned up all the broken glass and emptied it into the trash can. Then he came back to her and said, "Have Auntie vacuum it up again tomorrow, that should be enough."

"Oh, okay, I'll tell Auntie later," Shen Nian replied.

Come to think of it, tonight seems to be the time she has talked the most with Chen Ran. They have been in the company together for so long, but they don't seem to have talked much.

Chen Ran is usually quite aloof, and since they're not in the same group, when they go out together, he usually does his own thing and doesn't interact with others much. Shen Nian isn't one to initiate conversations either, so she was a little surprised that he offered to help her tonight.

Chen Ran slung his bag over his shoulder and walked out, but after taking a couple of steps, he turned back, looked at Shen Nian who was still standing there, and said, "Aren't you leaving?"

"Huh? I'm leaving, wait for me." Shen Nian quickly grabbed her bag and phone and followed.

It's so dark here, she doesn't want to be alone here.

The two of them came out and saw that there was a notice about a power outage posted at the elevator entrance. There would be maintenance at 9 p.m. and the power would be out for one hour. Everyone was asked to make their work arrangements accordingly.

However, neither of them seemed to have noticed it. It's likely that there was an announcement on the company's information platform, but neither of them logged in to check the message today.

Fortunately, it was only on the fifteenth floor, and the two of them walked down the stairwell floor by floor.

The stairwell was smaller than the office space and completely dark; it was much worse.

Although both of them were holding their own phones and had their flashlights on, Shen Nian was still quite scared, following closely behind Chen Ran, her heart pounding.

I'll never miss such an important event as a power outage again; it's terrifying!

Chen Ran seemed to sense Shen Nian's fear, and his originally fast pace gradually slowed down, allowing Shen Nian to keep up without much effort.

He didn't feel anything when he came down from the fifteenth floor. Shen Nian stood at the entrance and breathed a big sigh of relief.

"Finally down!" She patted her chest exaggeratedly, breathing in the fresh air in large gulps. She had really been holding her breath the whole time she was walking down the stairs.

Luckily, I ran into Chen Ran today. If I had to walk up the stairs by myself, she probably would have preferred to sleep at the company tonight.

"Have you had dinner yet? If not, I'll invite you to dinner." Shen Nian invited Chen Ran with a smile, after all, he had helped her a bit tonight.

Chen Ran looked at Shen Nian and suddenly smiled softly, "It's already ten o'clock, are you sure it's time for dinner?"

Shen Nian touched her nose somewhat awkwardly, "Then let's have a midnight snack~"

Chen Ran remained silent for a moment, then finally said to Shen Nian, "Let's go then."

Shen Nian followed him, and finally, she led him to sit down at a barbecue restaurant.

Eating barbecue for a late-night snack is the best!

Shen Nian rushed ahead to get the food, and Chen Ran followed behind her like a little follower.

Shen Nian asked him what he wanted to eat, and he said anything was fine.

It seemed like it was my first time visiting such a roadside shop; I wasn't familiar with the process.

Shen Nian remembered his understated luxury sports car and suddenly turned to ask, "This isn't your first time eating barbecue at a place like this, is it?"

Her bold guess.

Chen Ran glanced at her indifferently, "What do you think?!"

Then, pretending to be skilled, he took two skewers of chives and put them into Shen Nian's basket, saying, "Give me two skewers of these."

Shen Nian glanced down at the chives in the basket. "Do you recognize this vegetable?"

"...Of course I know him."

"what is it call?"

"Why should I tell you!"

Someone arrogantly returned to their seat, waiting for Shen Nian to get her own skewers.

Shen Nian watched Chen Ran's departing figure, lost in thought.

"He really is a young master from a wealthy family!"
