Chapter 168 A Unique Apology (1)
So, he behaved himself, obediently holding her and looking at her with deep affection in his eyes.
Before long, Yan Zuozuo felt sleepy. In her drowsy state, she felt as if she was being held in Chi Moqing's arms, which made her feel very safe and comfortable.
Cai Keren knew that Yan Zuozuo was also in the hospital, so she came to visit her accompanied by a nurse. She could see the two of them sleeping in each other's arms through the glass of the ward and couldn't help but feel a little envious.
The nurse saw it too, and secretly chuckled, saying, "They have such a good relationship, I'm so envious."
Staring at Yan Zuozuo and Chi Moqing's tender moment, Cai Keren's emotions surged. This kind of relationship, this kind of man—wasn't this exactly what she had always longed for? She had thought Qi Jiahui was the one who could give her happiness, but instead, he had pushed her into hell. Now that Qi Jiahui was in jail, she felt both relieved and heartbroken. Without Qi Jiahui, where would her next man be?
"Help me back," she whispered.
The nurse paused, then asked curiously, "Aren't you going in?"
"Don't bother them, I'll come back later." After saying that, she walked towards the ward, supporting herself against the wall.
The nurse couldn't help but glance at the loving couple in the ward, her eyes filled with envy. After a moment of stunned silence, she quickly went over to help Cai Keren up.
Yan Zuozuo stayed in the hospital for two days before the doctor allowed her to be discharged. Chi's mother was naturally happy to hear that she would be staying at home for a few days. She cleaned their room thoroughly, prepared a table full of food, and dressed the baby in pretty clothes, all while waiting for their return.
Chi's father stared in disbelief: "Why is it so grand?" It's not like they don't come back sometimes.
"This is a welcome feast to wash away the dust of the journey. Later, we'll have Zuo Zuo jump over the fire pit to get rid of bad luck. She's been having such a run of bad luck lately." With that, Mother Chi went to get the red rope.
Mr. Chi had been a military officer his entire life, and he always believed in his own faith, so he certainly didn't believe in these things. But his wife's intentions were good, and he wouldn't stop her.
Before Yan Zuozuo even entered the room, her loving mother came out carrying a brazier and quickly said, "Zuozuo, don't come in yet. Quickly, tie the red rope to your hands and jump over the brazier."
Yan Zuozuo was a little surprised. She glanced at Chi Moqing and heard him whisper in her ear, "This is a custom from my mother's hometown. It's specifically for getting rid of bad luck."
Yan Zuozuo immediately understood, glanced gratefully at Mother Chi, tied the red rope, and jumped over the brazier.
When she jumped over, Chi's mother untied the red rope from her hands and threw her into the brazier. She clapped her hands and said, "Alright, from now on you'll be safe and healthy. Look, you've lost so much weight lately, it breaks my heart."
"It's my fault, I always make Mom worry." Yan Zuozuo smiled shyly, and then Chi's mother took her hand and patted it, saying, "It's not your fault, it's all Mo Qing's fault. He can't even take care of his own wife. He's really useless."
Chi Moqing glanced at Yan Zuozuo with feigned resentment: "Wife, you made me get scolded."
"You deserve to be scolded. Did I scold you wrong?" Chi's mother glared at him and said irritably.
"No, no, Mom is right, it was all my fault." Chi Moqing apologized repeatedly, sat down next to Yan Zuozuo, and hugged her. "I'm here to apologize to both ladies. I was wrong, please forgive me."
Chi's mother slapped him: "Glib talker."
Yan Zuozuo chuckled softly, which immediately drew a disgruntled protest from Chi Moqing.
"Alright, alright, it's time to eat. I made Zuo Zuo a nourishing soup, drink plenty to help her recover." Chi's mother took Yan Zuo Zuo's hand and led her to the dining room.
Just then, the nanny pushed two babies out in a stroller. Yan Zuozuo was delighted and went over to kiss and hug them, pinching their chubby little faces and saying, "Mom, have these two little ones grown again?"
As Chi's mother was serving her soup, she said with a smile, "You've grown up and gotten fatter, you've gained two pounds since last month." As she spoke, she picked up the child and said, "Go drink the soup first, otherwise it will taste fishy when it gets cold." She glared at Chi Moqing and said, "There's some for you too, hurry up and go."
Chi Moqing had the illusion that she was a class enemy. Why was she looking at him so irritably? Next time he didn't come back, let's see how she would look at her daughter-in-law.
During the meal, the table was filled with Yan Zuozuo's favorite dishes. Before she could even pick up her chopsticks, she saw that Chi's mother and Chi Moqing had already piled a high layer in her bowl, leaving her dumbfounded.
However, she hadn't had such delicious food in the hospital for the past two days, and she ate everything offered. It seemed like almost no one else touched their food; she was the only one who ate the most.
Yan Zuozuo blushed, and what was even more embarrassing was that she kept burping while chatting with Chi's mother. Ugh, so embarrassing.
Chi Moqing gently patted her back and handed her a cup of hot water. "Drink slowly, you'll be fine soon."
Yan Zuozuo scratched his head and smiled sheepishly.
"I have something I'd like to discuss with you all, and I'd like to hear your thoughts," Mrs. Chi suddenly said.
Yan Zuozuo and Chi Moqing exchanged a glance: "Mom, what's wrong? Why are you so serious?"
“I want to take Keren as my goddaughter. Her parents are gone and she has no other relatives. It’s not easy for a girl to be all alone. I wanted to discuss this with you.”
"I disagree!" Chi Moqing spoke first, his face serious. "Mom, we understand that you feel sorry for her and want to take care of her more, but I don't support taking her as a goddaughter."
Chi's mother was taken aback: "Why? I think Ke Ren is a very good child."
Yan Zuozuo knew what Chi Moqing wanted to say, and tugged at his arm, signaling him to stop talking, that it was all in the past. But Chi Moqing insisted, "She's not as simple as Mom seems on the surface..."
Chi Moqing made no attempt to hide his disgust for Cai Keren, simply recounting what she had done: "It is impossible for me to accept a woman who bullied my wife as my god-sister."
Chi's mother was stunned. She thought to herself that Cai Keren was a good girl, so how could she have done such a thing?
She pursed her lips, paused, and said, "Since you don't agree, then forget it. I had the same thought too. Now it seems that this girl really isn't suitable to stay in our family. But the matter is over, and I think she has a remorseful heart. You should still help her if you can. People should know how to be grateful."
Yan Zuozuo repeatedly agreed, but Chi Moqing remained silent, pursing his lips. If it weren't for Chi's mother, how could he have kept Cai Keren at Fan Hua Design?
Yan Zuozuo stayed in the military compound for four days. The new clothing launch was just around the corner, and then Chi Moqing picked her up and took her back.
Throughout the journey, Chi Moqing kept looking at her with eyes that were flushed and pounding with excitement, and Yan Zuozuo knew that the beast was in heat again.
The house was very clean, which surprised Yan Zuozuo. She winked at Chi Moqing playfully, "It seems that President Chi has the potential to be a stay-at-home husband."
Chi Moqing coughed twice and said, "Your husband is just that versatile."
Yan Zuozuo was speechless and couldn't say a word.
Suddenly, she looked up and realized something was wrong. She had placed a few small potted plants on the balcony, and they were still there, but they looked different to her.
Suddenly, she turned around and glared at someone fiercely, "Did you switch my flowers?"
Can this be seen?
Chi Moqing touched his nose, feeling very guilty. He had been eating and sleeping at the company for the past few days, hardly ever going home. Today, he had even hired a cleaning company to clean the place specifically to welcome his wife home.
As for those flowers, they died because no one took care of them.
He had originally planned to throw them away, but remembering his wife's graceful figure as she watered the plants that morning, he quickly changed his mind and went to buy a few more. They all looked exactly the same, so how did his wife tell the difference?
"Chi Moqing, tell me the truth, have you been staying at home these past few days?" She wasn't upset about the few potted plants, but rather that he wasn't going home and was eating and drinking at the company instead.
This jerk, doesn't he know he has a stomach problem?!
Chi Moqing felt increasingly guilty, thinking that Yan Zuozuo could open a fortune-telling shop, which would definitely be very profitable.
Yan Zuozuo knew she had guessed right just by looking at him. She glared at him angrily, not knowing whether to say anything or scold him. It was really heartbreaking.
When Chi Moqing saw that his wife was angry, he quickly reached out and hugged her, saying, "Without you at home, it's so cold and lonely when I come back. I'd rather stay at the company. I've been eating properly, three meals a day without missing a single one."
He used to live a good life on his own, but since getting married, he has found that he can no longer adapt to living alone. Is this considered wife dependency syndrome?
Yan Zuozuo was both amused and annoyed by his expression, which looked like he was about to swear an oath. She nestled into his arms and whispered, "We promised to grow old together. You're always so careless with yourself. Are you planning to break up with me early?" As she spoke, she placed her small hand on his stomach and gently massaged it. "Have you had a stomachache these past few days?"
Chi Moqing shook his head, took her hand and kissed it, then chuckled, "No, I'm perfectly normal."
Yan Zuozuo snorted coldly and muttered, "That's for the best."
"Alright, the prisoner's been disciplined. Can we switch to romance mode now?" He pulled Yan Zuozuo's hand and headed towards the bedroom. Yan Zuozuo looked at him curiously, feeling both expectant and excited. "What romance mode?"
"Close your eyes, don't peek." Chi Moqing covered her eyes and made her follow him to the bedroom.
As soon as the door opened, a fragrant aroma wafted out, as if thousands of colorful flowers were rushing towards her. "It smells so good! Can I open my eyes now?"
"Wait a moment, it'll be ready soon," Chi Moqing said, and then left her side.
Yan Zuozuo stood there obediently, her eyes gently closed, her heart pounding. What romantic mode would Chi Moqing unleash? She couldn't wait.
Just as she was nervously and excitedly anticipating the moment, the sound of a piano suddenly filled the room. She was startled and subconsciously opened her eyes, only to see several hanging baskets dangling gracefully from the white-railed balcony, their vines dancing in the wind, looking exceptionally fresh in the sunlight.
A piano had appeared by the window, and a man in a black suit sat beside it, his back straight and his handsome face gentle.
Yan Zuozuo was almost frozen in place, her eyes wide open, watching the man's slender, fair fingers dance across the piano keys.
