Chapter 705 - 705: Premium Booster Energy
Chapter 705 - 705: Premium Booster Energy
"Bellibolt, use Water Pulse!" Iono seized the initiative, clearly intending to give everything she had in this final matchup."Belli!"
Bellibolt condensed a sphere of water and fired it straight at Great Tusk.
"Smash it away with Brick Break," Gary ordered.
"Mrrph!"
Great Tusk swung its enormous tusks and batted the Water Pulse aside.
Gary followed up at once. "Earthquake!"
Great Tusk raised its forelimbs and stomped down hard, sending violent tremors surging through the field.
The entire venue rocked from side to side. Bellibolt might have been a frog, but it was shaped like a stuffed dumpling and weighed a ton. It had feet but practically no legs, so even walking was a struggle for it, never mind jumping. Caught square in the Earthquake, the damage was super effective.
"Belli!!"
Bellibolt winced in pain, but taking that hit triggered its Ability. Its whole body trembled as golden arcs of electricity burst outward, and its black belly began pounding out a steady "dong dong dong dong," like someone beating a drum.
Not that it helped. Even with Electromorphosis active, the Charged state only powered up Electric-type moves, and those were worthless here.
"Bellibolt, Water Pulse again!" Iono refused to give up and kept attacking.
"Belli!"
Bellibolt poured all its strength into condensing another Water Pulse. It understood perfectly well that only Water-type moves could actually hurt Great Tusk.
"Stone Edge!" Gary ordered.
"Mrrrph!"
Under Great Tusk's control, rock energy shaped itself into blades with razor-sharp edges. The stone blades shot forward so fast the air itself seemed to tear.
Bang!
The Water Pulse was punched clean through, bursting apart without stopping more than a few of the blades. The rest slammed into Bellibolt and knocked it flat. Struck again, Bellibolt crackled with fresh arcs of electricity and re-entered its Charged state.
"Let's end this. High Horsepower!" Gary decided it was time for the finishing blow.
"Mrrph!"
Great Tusk charged out with all its strength, Ground-type energy swirling around its massive frame.
"Bellibolt, use Reflect!" Iono still hadn't given up.
Bellibolt hauled itself upright with great difficulty and summoned a translucent energy barrier.
Bang!!
Bang!!
The Reflect couldn't bear the force of Great Tusk's charge and shattered in under two seconds. Bellibolt was sent flying, slamming into the energy shield behind it.
"Belli!!"
Even after taking a hit that heavy, Bellibolt still didn't go down. The Reflect had absorbed a good chunk of the damage. But its condition was clearly failing now; there was no way it could survive another attack from Great Tusk.
"Bellibolt, Slack Off!" Iono ordered.
At her voice, Bellibolt didn't even bother standing. It immediately used Slack Off, converting Normal-type energy into healing power to mend its wounds.
"Earthquake!" Gary ordered.
Great Tusk stomped the ground, triggering another Earthquake that stripped away the stamina Bellibolt had only just managed to recover.
Gary kept up the pressure. "Lunge!"
Iono fought back just as fast. "Bellibolt, we're not done! Sucker Punch!"
"Belli!"
Thanks to Sucker Punch's priority, Bellibolt struck first, rushing in before Great Tusk could finish its charge and smacking it across the head, cutting the attack short.
But... it was useless.
Bellibolt's physical attack was simply too weak. Even at an equal level, it couldn't put a dent in Great Tusk.
"Our turn now. Hit it with everything!" Gary ordered.
"Mrrph!"
Great Tusk erupted with power, its huge body crashing forward and ramming into Bellibolt just as it landed.
Bang!!
Bellibolt flew more than ten meters and smashed into the protective energy barrier at the edge of the field. It dropped to the ground and stayed there. This time, it truly could not get back up.
"Bellibolt is unable to battle."
"All four of the Gym Leader's Pokémon have been defeated. The winner of this Gym battle is the challenger, Gary!"
The match against Iono ended there. It had to be said—aside from a certain someone before her, this was the first Gym Leader who had actually managed to put any pressure on Gary.
"My Iono! My precious girl!"
"She lost... I feel awful."
"Who could possibly beat that monster of Master Gary's?"
"It's just one loss, no big deal."
"Right, losing to Master Gary is completely normal."
The comments in Iono's stream shifted to consoling her.
"I really hate losing, but a loss is a loss. Thank you all for cheering me on," Iono said, thanking her viewers.
"Great Tusk, come back."
"Mrrph!"
Great Tusk let out an excited cry. This was the first Gym battle it had ever won for Gary, and it couldn't quite contain itself.
"Come back now."
Gary raised the Poké Ball and recalled Great Tusk.
The battle was over.
Iono walked over to him. "As promised, since you won, this Gym Badge is yours."
She took out the Badge and handed it over.
"Thanks."
Gary accepted it.
[Ding! Task completed. The reward has been distributed to System Storage.]
"Everyone~! Screenshot time! Hurry up and grab your screenshots!" Iono suddenly popped up beside Gary and pulled a cutesy, comical expression at the camera.
The fans watching the stream immediately started capturing the two of them together. Afterward, they'd use the image as a desktop wallpaper or phone lock screen. For them, this was genuinely a thrilling little treasure.
After indulging Iono with the photos, Gary said his goodbyes and left. On the way, he opened his System Storage to check the reward item.
[Premium Booster Energy: Held item for Pokémon with the Protosynthesis or Quark Drive Ability. Raises the holder's highest stat by 30% while on the field. Even if Protosynthesis or Quark Drive has already been triggered, this item's effect can still activate.]
"An exclusive item for Paradox Pokémon!"
Gary hadn't expected something like this to come out of a random drop.
Booster Energy was indeed exclusive to Paradox Pokémon, and its effect matched the standard description. The difference, however, was that an ordinary Booster Energy would not activate if the Ability had already been triggered by other means.
The system's version, however, could still activate on top of that. In other words, if Great Tusk held it, then under Sunny Day its highest stat could be raised by a total of 60%.
That was 10% better than even the best type-enhancing items. After all, boosting a Pokémon's own stats strengthened every move it used, while type-boosting items like Soft Sand only strengthened Ground-type moves alone.
"System, redeem the Electric-type Permanent TM for Electric Terrain," Gary said silently in his heart.
[Ding! Move redemption successful.]
There were no Electric-type attacks Gary particularly wanted, so Electric Terrain was the more useful choice.
