Chapter 329: Major Human Trafficking Case
Chapter 329: Major Human Trafficking Case
This move triggered a massive anti-trafficking campaign throughout Northeast China, and 18 leaders of human trafficking organizations, led by Liu Guiying, were arrested.
These are all found out by following the clues. Often if you catch one, you can lead to a whole bunch of them.
The eighteen people were the leaders, and they had even more minions under them. They were arrested one after another. According to later statistics, there were more than a hundred criminals arrested this time.
Of course, some of them are not direct participants, but they are indirectly involved, such as leaking information to them, so they are accomplices, but they still violated the law, especially during this crackdown period.
After two months of hard work, under the leadership of Yuan Mu, hundreds of women and children were rescued from all over Northeast China, most of whom were rescued from the mountain valleys.
People in the mountains are poor. Some of them cannot afford to marry in their entire lives, so they can only think of buying a child from outside to inherit the family line. Others directly buy a wife to carry on their family line.
When the police arrived at some ravines, many of the abducted women had become neurotic, with only basic mobility, and their hearts seemed dead, having been tortured terribly.
Of course, there were quite a few twists and turns in the process. The poorer the place, the more united the local people were. When the police entered the village and wanted to take the abducted women and children away, they were stopped by the villagers. They refused to let them go and insisted that the people stay.
Hundreds of people armed with sticks, hoes and other weapons threatened the police, which added a lot of difficulties to the investigation, but they had to do it no matter how difficult it was, so they took advantage of the night, sneaked in quietly, and took the people away directly.
It was too late for the villagers to chase them. As for the party who bought the people, there was no good way for the time being. Logically speaking, they had also violated the law, but it would be too difficult to catch them.
The villagers here have a very weak sense of law. Apart from knowing that killing someone means paying with one's life and owing debts means repaying them, they don't understand much else. In their opinion, why should you take away something you bought with your own money? They believe that they have not broken the law.
If we insist on arresting them, we will be stirring up a hornet's nest. The local villagers will collectively protest against the local government, and the impact will be too bad. The higher authorities have instructed that we should just leave it like this for the time being, as long as the children and women are rescued.
What’s most hateful is that some people lock up the abducted women somewhere and force them into prostitution, with dozens of customers every day. These women are basically dead when they are rescued.
Yuan Mu still remembers the scene of the family reunion at that time. Hundreds of rescued abducted persons met their relatives, some of whom had not seen each other for nearly 20 years.
When they were abducted, they were just two or three years old. Now they are already in their twenties. Most of these abducted children are from cities. They could have had a bright future, but they have had to stay in that mountain valley for the past twenty years.
Of course, it’s not that the people in the ravine are bad, it’s just that the people in the ravine who bought them destroyed their lives!
During that period, I could hear heart-wrenching cries every day. The emotions of reunion after so many years of separation could not be fully expressed at once. This was all the "good deed" done by those damn human traffickers!
In addition to these human traffickers, they also have accomplices, but they are no longer in the Northeast. Many of them have gone to the South to "work". After all, being a human trafficker in the Northeast is quite dangerous, and it is easy to be beaten to death.
So for the sake of their own safety, many people moved to other places and left the Northeast. Currently, the whereabouts of these people are unknown, and most of them don’t know where they have gone. However, this has nothing to do with Yuan Mu for the time being, and it has been handed over to other local police to handle.
. . . . . . . . .
In mid-July, under the leadership of Yuan Mu, Liu Jun, Wang Xin, Zhang Hongyi, Ning Wei, members of the investigation team and local police in Ningyang completed the criminal files of 178 people including Liu Guiying, Song Laoba, Sun Quezi, Zhao Ermeng, Li Xiu Lian, Zhang Laowu, etc., and handed them over to the People's Procuratorate of Liaoning Province for review and prosecution.
In mid-August, the People's Procuratorate of Liao Province compiled the criminal files of 178 people and formally submitted them to the Higher People's Court of Liao Province for formal review and prosecution.
The People's Procuratorate of Liaoning Province believes that the trafficking criminal gang consisting of 178 people including Liu Guiying, Song Laoba, Sun Quezi, Li Xiulian, Zhang Laowu, etc., committed the following crimes:
1. The crime of trafficking in women and children.
2. Intentional injury.
3. Rape.
4. The crime of hooliganism.
5. Intentional homicide.
6. The crime of illegal detention.
7. The crime of obstructing public service.
8. Crimes endangering public security.
9. Illegal possession of firearms.
10. The crime of causing death by negligence.
11. Crime of indecent assault.
12. Kidnapping.
13. The crime of abuse.
14. Robbery.
15. Theft.
16. The crime of forced prostitution.
There are a total of sixteen charges, and some of the leaders are charged with ten of them. One can imagine how many evil things they have done over the years!
It took Yuan Mu and other case-handling agencies nearly a month to compile the criminal files of 178 people, and the procuratorate also took nearly a month to review and prosecute. One can imagine how complicated the case was.
This was during a period of severe crackdowns, and the superiors required that everything be handled strictly, quickly, and severely. Yuan Mu and his team worked almost around the clock to organize the case files, and the procuratorate also drew prosecutors from various local procuratorates to work together on the case, which took nearly a month.
In early September, after the procuratorate completed the review and prosecution, it was time for the most critical trial stage, which was not held in the courtroom.
The first reason was that there was no courtroom that large enough, and the second was that the superiors required the Liaoning Provincial Higher People's Court to hold a public trial, so the trial was held in a large square in Ningyang.
There were so many people coming that day that the Liaoning Province organized thousands of police officers to maintain order at the scene.
On that day, the president of the Liaoning Provincial High People's Court personally heard the case, the chief procurator of the High People's Procuratorate also personally prosecuted the case, and other provincial party committee leaders including the provincial party committee secretary, governor, provincial party committee deputy secretary, and provincial political and legal committee secretary were in attendance as observers.
The reason why it was of such a high standard was that the top leaders already knew about the matter, and it had caused such a big fuss that it would be unreasonable for the provincial party committee leaders not to come forward, so they all came in person.
In addition to these local people, representatives from the Ministry of Public Security, the Supreme People's Procuratorate, and the Supreme People's Court came to listen to the trial, which shows how much importance they attach to this case.
This can be said to be the largest human trafficking case since the founding of the People's Republic of China. We must take a stand and give an explanation to the people of the whole country!
