Chapter 268: Hunt Them [3]
Chapter 268: Hunt Them [3]
"Kael?"
Finally.
After a wait of around five seconds, Diana finally answered from within.
Though I found it weird that it took so long for her to answer, I ignored the matter, relating it to her being in a depressed state.
"Can you open the door?"
Should I have used please in my question?
Well... even if Diana would have refused to open the door, I could just force my way in.
After all, looking at the door before me, I didn’t think it could handle any sort of attack from me... a Gold 2 no less.
These doors weren’t made for security... they were just a formality that was ingrained in civilizations from their very start.
Privacy was something that required one to be in a closed space... which resulted in such structures being used.
Though their primary purpose had always been security.
Haa...
I didn’t know why, but random thoughts had begun to take root in my mind.
Was I subconsciously being nervous about what to speak before Diana?
That... I didn’t think that should have been the reason behind such thoughts, but the more I thought about it, the more the reason seemed close enough for my current situation.
Maybe... I was being nervous.
Though I wouldn’t call it being nervous because I was going to talk to a girl or that girl was a princess.
No.
This nervousness was closer to my instincts warning me about something.
But what?
I couldn’t quite place my finger on anything, yet I knew that it had to be something related to Diana, because the feeling of being wary increased the moment I heard her voice.
But the surprising thing was that the increase in the intensity of my wariness was subconscious.
It was like my instincts were deliberately being suppressed.
Or maybe...
It didn’t have to do anything with Diana.
Maybe... the emperor had sent someone to spy upon me, to ensure the safety of his daughter, but—
Why would he even do that?
If he wanted to, he could have simply prohibited me from meeting her.
"I am currently changing so... please wait for a moment."
My thoughts were interrupted as Diana’s soft voice once again called from behind the door.
"Sure."
I patiently waited outside the door, not letting any of my thoughts overwhelm my sense of logic.
My face was neutral and so were my eyes.
I didn’t think my life was in immediate danger, because something like that couldn’t be hidden from my instincts no matter what.
Even a mere Bronze Core could subconsciously be warned by his instincts, if his life was indeed in danger, then—
There was no way anyone would be able to suppress my instincts to a level that I won’t be able to even detect a direct threat to my survival.
At least that was what I tried to believe in.
Yet knowing that nothing was ever permanent, and there could be variables in everything that I knew and had learnt so far... I remained vigilant of my surroundings.
Though I stopped myself from using mana sense, as that could be detected by my enemies.
I didn’t want them to know that I had realized something being amiss in my vicinity.
Click.
The door before me slowly opened as a pair of grey eyes stared at me.
Looking at Diana, I could notice her trying to look behind me as if searching for someone else.
Politely moving to the side, I let her see the area behind me with ease, though that led to the deepening of the frown on her face.
"Are you alone?"
After about a few seconds of antics, Diana looked to her right while staring into my eyes.
"Yes."
I mean did she expect me to bring some servants—
"I thought Alicia and the rest had brought you here."
Diana muttered at the end, before retreating into the room, and motioning me to follow her.
Following behind her, a simple yet elegant room greeted my eyes.
The bed was placed in the middle at the far end of the room, while windows were open on either side of the bed.
Cold wind blew from the outside, enveloping the area inside the room in its undeniable presence.
"Have you eaten anything?"
Hm?
Diana leaned on a table that was placed at the left end of the room, as she crossed her hands while looking at me.
Wearing a white top, she looked quite elegant, with her silver hair complementing the look.
"Should I make some coffee?"
"No, I am good—"
"I will make some."
Interrupting me, Diana went to one of the corners of the room, which had another small entrance to it.
"The kitchen is this way."
Noticing the curious look in my eyes, Diana smiled at me.
"I had asked father to attach one to my room, as I like cooking for myself."
Saying her words, Diana disappeared into the entrance leading to the kitchen.
I could have waited at the same place, but my curiosity got the better of me, as I walked in the direction of the entrance.
The height of the entrance was on the smaller side... but perfect for someone of Diana’s stature.
Stepping in, a small space greeted me, with walls that were covered in various designs that looked a little... cute?
I didn’t know whether that could be the exact word to describe my thoughts, but at the moment it was the closest that I could think of.
"Hm? It would have just taken a minute."
Diana, noticing my presence, turned around to face me—
"Your father had asked me to meet him before coming here, and the drink had been served to me, so—"
"Don’t you want to taste mine?"
"Hm?"
"I mean... the coffee made by me."
Diana smiled once again as if trying to clear a misunderstanding, though I found it weird.
What would I even misunderstand in that statement?
Still... looking closely, Diana’s behaviour felt far more composed than I had initially assumed it to be.
After all, knowing about her cousin’s death, I thought she would be in a depressed state, and I would have to cheer her up, but—
The situation seemed completely different from my expectations.
Though that changed nothing... as a person could hide his emotions but he couldn’t exactly run away from them.
No matter what Diana’s current state was... I would be sure to accomplish my objectives before leaving this place.
