U-15 GIRLS GARNER SILVER MEDALS AND FAIR PLAY AWARD AT 2009 OPEN CUP

Pembroke: After a stellar win against Amherst in the semi finals one week ago, the Nashua World Cup U-15 girls came up just short in their quest to secure their first Open Cup championship with a loss to the Lakes Region Lakers in a rain swept final on Sunday. Despite the soggy conditions, the team had several stellar individual performances throughout the tournament. Both opposing coaches and officials had high praise for the team's defensive play and central defender Mandy Desroachers was repeatedly singled out for her aggressive play throughout the match.

In addition to the silver medals the team earned, La Furia Roja were also honored with the coveted Fair Play award, given annually to the team that demonstrates the sportsmanship, values, and ideals that best emobody the spirit of the game.

NASHUA WORLD CUP EXCELS IN NH STATE CUP!

Eight teams from Nashua World Cup recently participated in the NH State Cup Tournament. Four of the teams made it through the round robin and playoff stages of the tournament to advance to the finals. The Nashua World Cup State Finalist teams were the girls U12 coached by Pat Mulcahy, the U15 boys coached by Paul Ostberg, the U17 boys also coached by Mulcahy and the U19 boys coached by Joel Ogbunimari.

The U19 boys lost in the finals. The U15 boys also lost in the finals, but will be representing the state of NH in the Presidents Cup Sub-Regional. The U12 girls played an exciting match versus Seacoast United that remained tied through regulation and two overtime periods. The game ended after 12 shooters from each team took kicks from the mark. The U12 girls lost, but will still be advancing as the wildcard winner to represent the state of NH at the Regional Championships to be held in Huntington, WV in early July. The U17 boys, who were the 2008 U16 NH State Cup champions, defeated Seacoast United 1-0 to repeat as NH State Cup champions. The finals were a hard fought battle between both teams that took over 3 hours because of lightning delays. The U17 boys will also be advancing to represent NH at the Regional Championships in WV.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE PLUS PRIDE SOCCER TEAM!!

The Greater Nashua World Cup SC is supportive of athletes of many abilities and those that overcome disabilities to enjoy the game of soccer. Working to help soccer players of all abilities, the Greater Nashua World Cup SC worked with the PLUS Company of Nashua and coached the unified team for the NH Special Olympics event held in Hampton, NH. The unified system allows for equal number of athletes and partners on the field. The NWC/PLUS team practiced for 5 weeks to get ready for the Special Olympics challenge. 2 teams were formed and partners were supportive during both practices and games. Coach Eric Winkler of the Greater Nashua World Cup SC provided coaching and training to all the athletes. Special thanks go out to World Cup's own Bruno Victal for his commitment to play in the games. NWC looks forward to an exciting NWC/PLUS team next year as well.
