NEFC-WORLD CUP Press Release

April 28, 2017: NEFC is proud to announce it is expanding the club umbrella to include a new region based out of Nashua, New Hampshire & Groton, Massachusetts. This Region will be called NEFC World Cup and is based on a collaboration between NEFC, Nashua World Cup, and Groton-Dunstable Youth Soccer. NEFC (Bob Thompson), World Cup, (Dan Wyborney) and GDYSC ( Chris Davy) will jointly be responsible for the overall direction of this partnership. In addition, Bob Thompson and Dan Wyborney will be the Regional Co-coaching Directors managing the day to day operations for the NEFC World Cup region. The new region will begin fielding NEFC Boys and Boston Breaker Academy Girls teams for the start of the 2017-18 club season, with tryouts to be announced for early June.

Expansion continues NEFC’s commitment to growing geographically and developing its players with an elite coaching staff and internal development structure targeted at identifying and fostering talent throughout the club’s regions. The NEFC World Cup region is the culmination of three like-minded organizations that value player development, promotion of town soccer participation, affordability, and training close to home. All three organizations will remain separate to continue their own endeavors, but will promote the NEFC World Cup region as the top local club opportunity and entry point into the NEFC and Boston Breakers developmental pyramid.

“It’s really exciting to see the start of the World Cup region as we have always had an interest in this area. Partnering with local organizations to kick-start the region was a bonus. We believe our brand and our philosophy can elevate the game in this region and reach a lot of players in a positive way,” said Brian Mazar, NEFC President.

NEFC: Will run and manage the NEFC World Cup Region and the teams will compete in the NEP.

Groton Dunstable Youth Soccer: Will continue to run their local Massachusetts town soccer program that competes in the Nashoba Valley Youth Soccer League.

World Cup of Greater Nashua: Will continue to host their Columbus Day Tournament and will continue to run their New Hampshire youth soccer program that competes in the New Hampshire Soccer League.

None of these teams will participate in club leagues.

Dan Thompson, President - Nashua World Cup said, "Our new collaboration with NEFC and GDYSC is the perfect match for Nashua World Cup. NEFC's focus on the highest standards for player development and the opportunities for player growth, are a couple of the many reasons that Nashua World Cup is thrilled to be a part of this collaboration. This is a win for Nashua World Cup, NEFC, GDYSC and most importantly, the players throughout this region!"

“For several years, we have been looking at ways to enable our players to continue to play with their town soccer program while also playing for one of the premier regional club programs. We are thrilled to partner with NEFC World Cup to create a region that is philosophically aligned around improving the collaboration between our town soccer program and the NEFC World Cup club program so that we can give our players access to some of the best training and development in the world in their own back yard while creating a model that supports and encourages players to continue to participate in their local town soccer program as well”, said Chris Davey, Groton-Dunstable Youth Soccer Club President
